Torn pad!! What to do??

Johnny has a part of his pad (front left leg) torn, he can't even touch the ground except when he is very excited he seems to forget that he is in pain. I took him to the vet and she said that he will be OK, but it has been four days now and no improvement:(

I can't put anything on the damaged part to prevent it from touching the ground cause everytime I try he torn the bandage, I tried to put some lemon on the pandage, but he seems to like lemon he even try to eat it!!

I'm very worried and I want to know if anybody has experienced similar situation? Is 4 days too long?? I think that he didn't improve cause he still completely lift his leg up the ground unless he is playing and excited, I try not to get him move but he is a dog!

One of mine cut his pad badly on a broken bottle once, the vet stitched it up and we had to keep him off of it as much as possible for a while to let it heal. I'm surprised the vet didn't stitch it, seems it would be easy for it to get infected.

I guess he should at least stay off it for as long as possible - is it gaping open? Maybe you can tape it securely and get him one of those E-collars, if you can get those in Cairo. I'd call your vet back if I were you.

Sorry I'm not too helpful! Just seems to me it will take forever to heal and be liable to get infected if it's not cloed up & protected somehow.

I would go back to the vet or try a different vet. The situation is not improving as the vet predicted it would so something else needs to be done. I wouldn't put lemon on it, it stings like mad. I would say at this stage and antibiotic would be appropriate, either topically or systemically.

ok I'll go to another vet today. I didn't put lemon on the torn part I put lemon on the bandage so as not to make him get it away of his feet, the problem is he is alone for 8-10 hours while I'm at work so I won't be supervising all the time. I'm very worried of it being infected, but I'll see another vet today. Thanks

Knuckles cut a pad on something in the back yard. I put some soapy water (used a hospital type antibacterial soap) in a bucket, cleaned it up real good, rinsed it well, dried it thoroughly and put some liquid bandage on it. I can't for the life of me, remember the exact name of the product, but I know it wasn't New Skin. It healed up nicely. I had tried the bandage thing with a sock over it and Bitter Apple on it, but that only slowed down his removal of the bandage.

My vet recommends a black tea compress for an hour or so every day. The tannins help the raw skin to heal and toughen. I make it with a giant Lipton teabag soaked in a little hot water for a while and then cooled, then make a cut in it and press to pad and put a plastic baggie around it and some masking tape to hold. You might need an e-collar if your dog can't resist chewing his bandage. They get used to the collars. Sometimes it's the only way!

You should definitely check again with a vet though because the risk of infection is high. Keep any bandage besides the tea compress clean and dry.

I recently found tannins in a tiny spray bottle at my local drug store, it's in the burn section isle. It can be used exactly like the black tea compress rottlove talked about.
