Originally posted by mercedes as far as a "good breeder" goes, you make it sound like your "good breeders" never have bad pups, or pups with problems, and it is just unheard of to sell one with problems, fine think what you want to, but as far as the dog being too young to take when she is only 6 weeks, yeah i have also heard 8 is the minimum before they should leave their homes. so you may be right on that, but this isnt one of your byb, the breeder sold the pup early(that MAY be a mistake, depending upon how opinionated you are) and if they sold her early how could they tell if the pup had a hip or walking/ weak muscle problem? huh? riddle me that! not attacking anyone on here..but i dont think the expert advice about breeders is needed, like we bought our dog from a hand-me-down store. grow up. thats like picking on children that dont have rich kid luxuries. the point is, i came on here asking for known problems that possibly could be associated with my dog, i didnt ask for your opinions on where the best breeders are, this breeder came highly recommended, and champion bloodlines in the brochure we recieved, and with
the pedigree papers included...if you think they are "fake/cointerfeit" fine....all i know is i love my puppy broken or not, if shes sick fine, if shes not even better, but i know if shes just got weak legs which i hope it is, she will be one of the best companions i have every had, and making it one of the best things in my life.... |
I'd kindly like to add my support to Mercedes, however, she's mistaken about the heritage of her puppy. A simple "Google.com" search of the words 'Schomberg' and "rottweiler' reveals that the "breeder" has dogs of no particular distinction. They're not champions overall for at least 3 generations. Neither sire nor dam has been shown in any recognized venue, hasn't been titled in obedience or in any German style shows. A pedigree of a puppy bred by this "breeder" is posted at her website [which features a snarling barking dog as an audio] and the sire is the same as Mercedes' puppy. This sire and the dam noted are definitely not from "German" lines unless you stretch the meaning of "German" to include the Rottweiler as a breed being of German origin. In fact, the dreaded name "Kimbertal" appears in the 3rd generation of the dam. :( THe sire does have a single Champion, Ironwood's Gremlin, but that's it.
Unfortunately, even BYBs are learning how to use graphic packages and software and the Internet to make the dogs they're breeding appear to be "quality". It's not unusual for many of these awful people to lie outright about lineage to the uninformed buyer, who never thinks to check.
I think the lesson here is that when a buyer wants something badly enough, and a seller is unscrupulous enough, we have a deal with the Devil in the offing. This is a good example of bad backyard breeding taken to it's inevitable conclusion. This "breeder" in question isn't any more an ethical breeder than anyone who advertises at places like 'dogbarter.com' or in the Sunday newspaper classifieds. [Edit: Evidently this woman does use the Sunday newspapers up there regularly, which is a classic sign of BYB].
I'm hoping that Mercedes realizes she's not qualified to breed Rottweilers and that she has this sweet little puppy spayed as soon as possible. I'm sad that she's taken the thread in a negative light, however, sometimes one needs to have one's illusions stripped away and then one needs to deal with the honest reality of their decisions. I wish Mercedes all the best of luck with this puppy, hope that she heeds the excellent advice given here and realizes she's not qualified to breed dogs any more than the woman who bred her puppy is qualified to breed them.
As an important note: it is AGAINST THE LAW for anyone in the state of Wisconsin [and most other states] to sell dogs under 8 weeks of age [sell meaning to release to the new owner]. This "breeder" is also violating the state law; perhaps a complaint can be filed with the appropriate state agency, probably the Attorney General of Wisconsin.
