Shaking head

My boy Rolffe has started, in the last week or so, to shake his head from side to side.
Would this be a sign of an ear infection?
I have taken the liberty of giving both ears a good smell, but they smell fine.
I do clean his ears about once a month.

Any suggestions? I am just concerned because this seems to be bothering him a bit.

Thanks,
Jill

Think I would be taking him to the vet if this behaviour has begun recently and has been going on for a week. There is obviously something bothering him.

He could have a little piece of something way down in his ear canal, your vet can look down there with the little ear scope thingy (technical term :) )and remove it with forceps if necessary.

When I lived in California the "foxtails" from the long grass got everywhere in the animals. Ears, eyes, between toes...I was constantly vigilant but still had to go to the vet a couple of times for foxtail removal.

You can also check him for ear mites. Look for blackish, greasy gunk inside the ear.

If you don't see anything I would take a trip to the vet, just in case. It also could be allergies.
