Is there an age for TPLO Surgery? My Pup is 10 months old and 86 lbs. She is female. She has a torn acl. The vet is speaking to the surgeon and said she may be too young. Does anyone know anything about this? Thanks

I forgot to mention the reason they may wait is so she is fully grown and the growth plates have fully grown. I just hate to wait because her opposite hip is so bad and I do not want to put anymore strain on it. I guess when I hear from the surgeon they will let me know what is best. I just hate to see my puppy so sad. I hear from the vet that this is very rare for my breader to have problems with any of her dogs and that this is just one of those things. I always get so lucky. She is a great dog otherwise though. Thanks in advance for any replies.

I can't really help you but I sure can empathize -- I got the one "problem child" healthwise from an otherwise excellent litter from an excellent breeder. Maybe keeping your girl low-impact for a few months will be okay; seems like the surgeon would know best--what does he consider full grown, as we all know it can be 2 years. A dilemma. Good luck with her... I sure hope they can fix her up.

The Surgeon spoke to me and feels that if we fix up her knee she should be fine for some time with her hip on supplements. He feels we can do the knee anytime. I am making an appointment for the surgery as soon as they get back to me with openings. Roxie is only 10 months old. The xrays we had were not for her hips. The doctor thought she had a problem with her bones such as pano or something else (i do not remember the name). There was, however, a picture of her hips taken. They were not taken correctly for a hip x-ray. I can only have hope that maybe they are better than they thought. We are seeing a different vet now. He is at a vet hospital and they have a special surgeon to come in and do TPLO. There are only 4 that do the surgery in the State as far as I understand. I will be glad to have it done and get her so she can walk again without pain.
