Puppies in the rain

Sasha is 5 months old and loves to play outside. The weather is always nice outside since we live in Southern California. However rain season has begun today and when I tried to take Sasha out to go potty but she refused, so I didn't force her. I am concerned if it is safe for her to be outside in the rain at 5 months. Can someone please let me know if it is ok for Sasha to be outside during rainy weather?

They're waterproof!

They aren't made of sugar, they don't melt in the rain. ;) There's no reason Sasha shouldn't go out in any weather (extreme cold or extreme heat excepted, of course), especially for so short a time as a potty break. This doesn't mean she'll WANT to go out in the rain, of course, but if the alternative is letting her go in the house, well, like the Christmas carol goes: "out you go, out you go, out you go". :) Out of curiosity, why would you think she shouldn't go out in the rain?

Her cute little "California princess paws" just haven't adjusted yet!:D At 5 months, she was born in the middle of a drought. I'm in So Cal too, wasn't the rain GREAT? My dog used to have princess paws and "oh no, what's that dripping on my head" when she was a puppy, too (being a true blue California puppy). Now she's all grown up and rain is reason to celebrate! Once she gets wet, it's Zoomie Time!

So go on and take that puppy out! :)

Lordy yes, take her out! Just have a big towel by the door to rub her down because they'll always shake in the worst places.
Rottweilers generally love cool weather - mine adore the snow.
She'll be just fine. :)

What a cute question! I think it's great that you are worried about her being in the rain.

But don't worry, look at our puppies.......when they are ten weeks old, they are out playing in snow in 15 - 20 degree weather! And they LOVE it! King of the mountains of snow is their favorite game, the wetter they can get from the snow, the better! :D

We live in Northern California and the first time it rained (before thanksgiving Bell was a complete freak. No way she was goin out in that! Now several storms later she is the exact opposite. She LOVES the rain and her favorite thing is chasing the water down our flooding streets. You guys in Southern California are just wimps when it comes to weather :D The again we don't get the scorching heat so maybe I should retract that...

When Daisy was a pup, she didn't like to get wet. I carried her to her potty spot under an umbrella until she was about three months old. It was cold here, around Christmas time. One day we had a soaking rain, then it cleared. The puddles were mirrors. She was fascinated by the puppy in the puddle. She jumped into one and splashed and bit at the splashes. Then she saw the leaves floating by in the gutter, and a new game was born! She didn't melt, and her little princess paws learned how to slap slap slap the water and make splashes and fun! :D

How 'bout this one...

Loki absolutely LOVES the water hose, swimming pool, shower etc. But let it rain, OMG the world is coming to an end!!! She will NOT go outside unless I bring an umbrella to hold over her....If I bring one just for myself, she walks so close to me, I trip over her. She is such a TIT!

Thank you all for your replies. My boyfriend thought I was crazy to even ask that question, but Sasha is my first dog, and she is my baby. I know she is not made out of sugar, that's what my boyfriend keeps telling me. But sometimes I can't help be overly worried or concerned. I am learning everyday, and I know I have to stop treating Sasha like she's a princess.

Thank you all again!

We all were, at one moment in life, first moms or dads to our furkids, and we all passed through the same worries :D So ask whatever you need, there's no small or stupid question :)

So don't be too tough on yourself :D

And wellcome to the world of doggie parenting :D

Carolina :)

Hi jshin2000! :)

Hey, Sasha can still be a princess! A Rottie Princess loves to play in the rain and dig in the mud! She also loves to get a good rubdown and have her mom take her to class to learn her Rottie Princess manners, too! Girls just wanna have Fu-un, yeah, girls just wanna have FUN! :D

Enjoy your puppy! :)

I had a quick chuckle at your post. My first puppy's first week at home we had a small blizzard in Colorado terms. We had to dig paths for him to go out into the snow, otherwise he would have gotten lost in the snow somewhere. We were in potty training 101 when he decided he didn't know what that white stuff was on the ground and wouldn't pee for half an hour or walk on the snow. I waited him out, and his bladder finally said enough. Our female hates to get her feet wet first thing in the morning. Once I shove her off the dry spot into the rain or snow, its zoomie time. So much for being princesses. :D

LOL...That's what a friend of mine calls being a "helicopter mom." Always hovering overhead...keep up the good work! Sometimes those of us who have had dogs for decades forget what it was like starting out in the world of dogdom... :)

Well my 2 dogs do not like the rain, they hate getting their feet wet and find cover when I let them outside. BigBoy doesnt mind his occasional bath, and I don't know if he will swim at the lake yet. Guido goes up to her belly at the lake and stops right there.
Every dog is a little different I guess.
