T-Touch (Tellington Touch)

Has anyone ever used the T-Touch?

My 14 month old pup Jade, has a huge "dog fear" problem. She has been with me - even though I rescued her as an 8 week old pup from our rescue group. So she has never been in a situation in my house that could have contributed to her huge level of fear with all other dogs...

Anyhow, someone suggested I try the T-touch on her as it will most definately help reduce the fear and insecurity she has..
I have heard of the T-Touch, but do not know much about it...
I would love to hear from anyone who has used it - and for what reason you used this. Also how successful was the "treatment"

Thanks

janet

Janet,

I have used T Touch on both my dog and horses. My rott suffers from DJD because of HD. I used it because Rimadyl made him sick, Adequan stopped working, and I wanted to hold off on surgery until I knew there was no other option.

We've paired the T Touch with a few other alternative therapies. We are doing acupuncture treatments and using a very good kibble and supplementing in some additional vit C and Flax Seed oil.

The T Touch I learned by going to a T Touch therapist. I generally do it daily. The acupuncture has been weaned off to bi monthly.
I do notice a calmness in Max when we are done with it. I have been told that T-Touch is not like accupressure. However if you do the circular motions around the body as you are supposed to do there are "accupressure like benefits " IMHO.
They say it produces some sort of state of consciousness....I'm not so sure about that, but if anything the warm touch is working to calm the animal, making them less apt to have issues.

The horses I've tried it on had everything from stifle lameness to stall weaving. Again, It was a calm time, and from it came a relaxed state.

Try it! I have seen positive results...I can't tell you exactly why as I don't really understand the concept, but any relaxing activity you are doing with your animal can't do anything but help!
;)

Thanks Jessica - that is very informative.. I am glad you addressed the difference between accupressure and T-Touch, because I wasn't sure if they did the same thing. She is getting accupuncture also, but as you said the person who told me about T-touch did say its different from accupressure...

Can I ask Jessica, is the T-touch something I could quickly learn how to do myself or is it something I should tak her to a therapist for?

I believe 100% in alternative treatments and was excited and am extremely open minded and enthusiastic to learn about this technique and how it will help my little baby ;)

thanks for your input.

Janet

I'm not familiar with t-touch, but I do massage therapy. I know my boy enjoys it completely, and it does have a very calming effect.

Can you expound a bit more as to what t-therapy is? and how does it differ in the specifics from massage?

Hi, if you check out this web site it gives a little more detail about it... http://ww4.choice.net/~spalter/touch.html

I heard it does differ significantly from massage and accupressure.

Also if you just key in "Tellington Touch" on the internet web browser it will bring up an abundant of information about it.

I am having my young pup go in for T-Touch therapy to help treat her fear. I have heard wonderful things about it, and I know it was developed by a lady called Linda Tellington who researched the technique she use to use it on her horses and it developed from there... I hope this helps.

Janet, I actually have a video: T-Touch for happier, healthier dogs ( I can't remember the exact title). After seeing the therapist, I went out and got the video... Took what I had seen her do and what the video showed me and copied the form.

I would take your dog to the therapist first so that you can see first hand how it works... If you have any questions ask them then. If you are confident that you can do it after your appointment then go for it!!!!

FYI I know they have clinics all over the place. You can bring your dog and learn from a liscensed instructor. Ive never tried....Maybe someday...

Good Luck! I'd love to hear what you think! Jessica

Thanks Jessica, I found T-Touch therapist in my area, and spoke with her today, we are going next week for our consultantion.. I am looking forward to it.. I think it sounds pretty good.

I was going to buy the video, but you are right, I will see how she does it first and then go from there, I will let you know how our first session goes...its pretty cheap also.

Thanks again

Janet

I never heard of this. Enlighten me just a little.....are we talking about some sort of pressure touch to a particular spot? Something that relaxes or reassures the dog somehow? Different spots for different problems?

To be honest with you - although I know of this therapy, I do not know that much about it, but I will be going next week to see exactly what it entails, but here is an extract from some information I received on the T-touch, hope it helps...

"What exactly is TTouch? The first technique is body work, a collection of specific touches designed to work on emotional and health problems. These touches are not massage, acupressure, nor invasive. Included in body work are various gentle manipulation of body parts. The second technique is ground work which involves guiding the animal through movement exercises in non-habitual ways.

The techniques are designed to create a calm, attentive, focused state of consciousness. Then through touch, manipulation and guiding the animal through non-habitual activities, they bring feelings, habitual responses and bodily states of awareness. In this state the animal can use its mental and physical resources to reorganize its programming and develop more appropriate patterns and responses. The typical kinds of situations that have been helped by TTouch are: barking, chewing and biting, fear and shyness, car sickness, jumping up and leash pulling, fear aggression, submissive urination, separation anxiety, aging arthritis, hip dysplasia and more."

Hope this helps.

Janet
