Parvo infected puppy? Please Help

It all started Thursday night when I came home she was laying in the corner of the living room. She didnt move alnight. That morning when I was getting ready for work I walked in the kitchen & I noticed she wasnt behind me for breakfast (she never misses a meal) so I peeked around the corner & still laying in the same spot. I didnt think anything of it & went on to work. Later that day my wife told me Bella has been acting kind strange. She poured a food bowl for her & didnt even eat it. I knew then something was wrong. So later that day my wife took her to the vet. They said she might have parvo but their not 100% sure. So now Bella has stayed over night at the vet for over 2 days with an IV stuck in her paw. We talked to the vet everyday & I went to she her Saturday. The first two days the vet said she was vomiting & not doing to well. We called this morning & they said she finally ate some chicken broth this morning & held it down & she might be able to come home tommorrow. This doesnt exite me they have said this the past 2 days.

What can I do???
Do I tell them to run a blood test???
Bell has always chewed on our baby girl's toys. (plastic, threads, stuffed animals) Could it be thats whats wrong with her.
After all the vet said their not sure if its parvo or not.

Please help,

PS- Bella is about 4 1/2 months

Why didn't they test for parvo????

I don't know much about parvo but am wondering why the vet didn't take it upon himself to test for it. What is he waiting for??? Did she have any diarrhea? The symptoms are as follows, vomiting, severe bloody diarrhea, lethargy, and loss of appetite. Please have them run some bloodwork, see what that shows and you're gonna have to watch what she eats from here on in She should only be chewing on appropriate toys, she may have ingested some plastic, stuffing , who knows:(. At that age they have to be watched so carefully and they must have alot of chew toys bc she's teething. If you're unable to supervise then perhaps crating her is best. I hope they find out soon what is wrong and I'm trying to understand why they didn't test for parvo if that's what they suspected. How is she now? Don't be afraid to ask questions, she's your baby, be aggressive! Please let us know how she's doing.

Judy

Keep in mind if a puppy has gotten a parvo shot with live virus in it they can test positive for 2 weeks after the shot.
I had a parvo scare after we adopted Rose. We took both dogs to the emergency vet. He did a parvo & gardia test on both of them. I can't understand why your vet didn't test for it.

WilliaK,
I lost 2 puppies at the same time because of Parvo. It would not take more than 3 days for Parvo virus to incubate and make the puppy have extraordinary vomits and bleeding diarrhea. The infected puppy will drinks as much as it could, and it's not recommended. Within 24 hours after the first bleeding diarrhea, the puppy should have infuse contains glucose/saline and antibiotics directly into the puppy’s vena since it can not absorb any meal/water by the normal digestive system that could cause the puppy weaker.
If the puppy hasn’t been tested for parvo virus, it’s better to keep it away from others that already infected (usually the vet puts the parvo suspected and infected puppy in the same room, it’s not good) Because the symptoms could be caused by other virus.
Take care,
Bella would be on my prayer..

Bella is doing great we brought her home Monday. I'm guessing the vet didnt think she had parvo cause when he brought her out he sat her down on the floor. So, I really dont now what was wrong with her. But, shes more active than ever even the first day home with us she was really alive. The vet gave us some liquid vitamins for her & shes going back for shots sometime next week. Thanks

Thankyou for letting us know

I've been thinking, had Bella had any shots in or around her getting ill bc some dogs get nasty reactions from vaccines??? You said they don't really know what was wrong, doesn't that bother you a bit, wouldn't you like to know what caused her symptoms? I would wait alittle longer to have the rest of her shots you spoke of and then I would have them spilt up, not all at once. Not knowing would concern me but then I don't know your vet or the reasons why they can't tell you what was wrong. So glad to hear she's better, hope all goes well after the next round of shots.

I wholeheartedly agree with Judy. Any dog who was symptomatically (regardless of the end diagnosis or lack of one) as ill as this young one was so recently..... the immune system really shouldn't be stressed additionally with vaccines.

Sorry...... but I really do disagree with the gameplan..... :(
