Dry patches/loosing some fur

Hello and I am so glad to finally be a member here! I have a question I didnt know anything about that was asked to me. A friend of mine that grew to love my rotties went out and got one of her own from a "rescue". Well from this so called "rescue" they told her that she was spayed and that she was utd on shots. Well a few weeks later the Female spayed rottie had a litter of pups. (Now are you all with me?? The "SPAYED" female had a litter of pups.) Uh huh! But anyway now they are a few weeks old and she was introducing them to soft dog food. Well they all ended up walking in it and getting full of it so she gave them a bath. Well since she gave them there first bath some of them started to get dry skin patched and loose some fur in that area. I have never seen it does anyone know what that is caused from and how to treat it??:( I "THOUGHT" maybe it was from not rinsing them well......and the soap being left in them but she insisted she rinsed well. Anyone have any ideas???

What kind of soap?

you really should not "bathe" a pup until it is at least 6 wks of age. Rinse, maybe. Most soaps and shampoos are too harsh for a young pups skin and could cause these dry spots and hair falling out. Puppies are not going to stay out of food, they are going to crawl around in it and get it all over the place, but the mother and siblings usually tend to take care of cleaning it up. She should take the pups to the vet and have it checked out though. It may be something other than the soap.

Thanks Loki's mom for replying.....:)
She called her vet and he said dont bathe them any more and to rinse them in vinegar and water to take any soap that may be left in out... and then to "lube" them up with baby oil to put some oils back in to there skin. Sounds kind of weird to me...(shrugs)

from my breeding experiences, long ago....;) ....you can't keep a puppy clean and surely don't bathe them with soap. Their little skin is so sensitive....Glad she called the vet, the baby oil should help out tremendously! How many pups did this spayed female have?

The spayed female.....

had 14 pups but 2 were still born. Tiny mommy she was only about 70lbs. and was in poor condition to start with. To think this rescue is full of rotties in our area. I just wish something could be done with this lady. But as of now they are 5 weeks and they are healthy beside the "soap burn" so to speak. If the baby oil is used how much do you suggest and how often do you suggest to put it on?? I have never had to go threw this with my dogs thats why i know nothing about it! Thanks so much for the help!:D

OH MY!!! lots of puppies! How old is the mommy?

As to how much and how often really depends on their current condition? I wouldn't drown them in it, but a little squirt and good rub in once a day should suffice. but if it is really severly dry she may have to do it twice a day. But I am no vet, he/she may recommend more or less.;)

Yes there was lots of them! I think 4 or 5 out of the 12 have the dry patches. But some are hardly visable and 2 are very very very noticable. Like the little males is right where his little collar sits on the back of his neck.... the other little female has it on her belly in her arm pits so to speak. LOL...she has 2 females that are still up for adoption to a "GOOD" home if you know anyone.:) ( a little plug for her also..lol)
BTW~ the mommy is ONLY 2 yrs old.ONLY!!!

I wish I lived closer...I would love to take one off her hands, poor little babies!!! and poor mommy! So I guess that it is safe to assume that as soon as these puppies are adopted that mommy is "going under the knife" (AGAIN:D )?

She sure will be. So another case like this does not happen. But the funny thing was is that after the lady from rescue found out she had puppies she had balls enough to ask...were they pure bred? Did you do there tails and dews? How many? Ohhh, I need them all back. The mommy and babies. If she was bred in rescue them puppies need to come back! So she fought it told her where to go and all. That lady only wanted them back to make a profit off of them. Sick to think!

YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING?????

Take these pups back? Why so she can let them get knocked up and then tell the prospective new parents that they are "fixed" too???? How Dare!!! Sounds to me like something needs to be done to stop this woman from "RESCUING" anymore poor animals.
