Swimming

I just wanted to see if any other Rottweilers are as crazy about swimming as Andy is. He just started swimming about two months ago, but has become really serious about it in the last couple of weeks. He was tentative at first and sometimes wouldn't even go in, especially if his friend Heidi would get the float first. Now he races Heidi to the float and usually wins. He's really strong with his front legs, really pumps.

I just wondered if any other Rottweiler owners had similar experiences since my previous dog wouldn't even get her ankles wet if she could help it.

Sam absolutely loves the water! He will dive underwater to get shells we throw in there for him. He will play for hours in the sprinkler too. I swear you would think he was a labrador. :D But it's a good thing he like the ocean, his daddy is a Coast Guardsman ;)

We should have known something was up when we first rescued him. We kept on having to shoo him out of the shower while we were in there. There is one good thing about having him willingly enter the shower...he's easy to give baths to. :p

Actually Hans loves water also. Today I poured a hot tub of water and when I came back in the bathroom I was shocked to see Hans was laying in the water splashing around like he was in heaven. Needless to say no more bubble bath for me but Hans didn't seem to mind. I think rotties have such thick coats that it feels good to them. By the way Hans has a personal baby pool too :p I make sure to take him to the lake to splash around every week!!!

Jagger loves to play in the water. He won't always swim by himself. He likes it better if I'm swimming with him. I have a pic of him (if I can find it)swimming in the river in the mountains. I will keep searching for it and post it if I find it.

Our Jasmine took to the water like she was part fish the first time we took her to the lake, but no one had been swimming yet this year and between the pollen on the water and stirring the debris up from the bottom she has herself a nasy ear infection. Be sure to flush the dogs ears out after swimming to prevent this! :( . $160.00 in vet bills later I guess she won't be swimming again!

Good luck Cindy

Well Mojave's first experience in swimming was involuntary. He was playing with a big beach ball in a friend's back yard when he accidentally "kicked" the ball onto the top of the pool tarp. I had shown him that the pool had water in it as soon as we got into that backyard, but I guess he didn't "get it" Well, naturally, he ran right after the ball after it was on the tarp and went head first into the water. Scared the CRAP out of him and took nearly 45 minutes of us in the pool coaxing to get him into the water with us (once we were actually ready to go in ...after he got comfortable with the swimming and knew how to get out of the pool when he wanted to, he couldn't get enough. In fact, when it was time for us to leave, he sat himself down on the bottom step of the pool and would not budge. It was like a pouting child in our backseat on the way home...wouldn't even look at us ;)

Both of our rotts love the water. They have a baby pool & go to the lake. Playing in the hose is great fun for them as well. I have to admit the previous rotts we had hated the water.
