Where to put the crate?

Where is the best spot to put the dog crate? We are getting a 6 month old Rottie(?)
mix tomorrow and I still haven't decided where to put him. I would rather have the crate in the bedroom (and that is where I have the most space) but my husband says that the crate NEVER goes in the bedroom, because it could cause training problems. I thought that was old advice from when our first dog (he's 8) was in training. Where do y'all have your crates?
(I have a tiny house...if the crate goes in the living room, I have to get rid of a couch.)
Thanks,
Nadine

We had two crates for Boris. One in the bedroom. and one in the kitchen. I have never heard any negatives on a crate in the bedroom. Oddly enough he is out of both of his crates now,(101/2 months)and I have had no destructive behavior.

When we're crate training, we have a crate in the bedroom and another in the living room. The puppy sleeps in the crate in the bedroom. I like to be able to hear the dog if he or she fusses at night.

We only have one crate for our six month old Wrigley and we keep it in the bedroom at night and when we are not at home. When we are home we slide it out into the living room so he can go in when he wants or if we need to crate him for a short time for whatever reason he is still right there with us and still feels like part of the family in the mix of things. Just not feasible for us to get two crates and not too big a pain to slide the crate from bedroom to living room and back(in our house anyway). Hope this helps.

I have 2 crates also one in bedroom and one in living room. I read from a good trainers website that if your dog is on the dominate side that its better to have him sleep in another room than you. something about letting dog know its pack order is at the bottom. My 2 year old has allways sleep in my bedroom but i have a new pup that i am having sleep in livingroom. good luck

When Axel was small we kept him in a smaller crate in our bedroom. He was still needing to go outside at night & that way we could hear him. Once he got a few weeks older & started sleeping through the night, we bought a big crate. That one we put in the kitchen. He seems happy with it. Of a morning, if he wakes before we do, he barks to let us know that he's up & needs to go potty. Of course it only takes one bark to have me up. hehe

Bedroom. It helps with the social issues with a new dog. They like to feel close to their people. If you are gonna use it even during the day while you are home then pull it into a room where the family is. Sarge, 10 month old, and then new baby, Attikuz, 10 wks old, both have crate's and they are both in the bedroom.

I have a 7 month old Rottie that we have crate trained from the first time we got her. At 9 weeks. The first couple night she slept on the floor in the bedroom. THis allows the dog to get used to your scent at night, and the dog does not feel abandoned. I highly recommend getting the book The Art of Raising A Puppy. This is wonderful, a neighbor gave it to us the day we got our pup. I know that it saved our lives. It deals with crate training, house training, and lots of other very useful information. At first you will want to put the crate in a place that the dog can get used to it, with you around. Use treats to get the dog to go in and check out his his new place. Leave some toys in there, so they can go in and out and start to feel comfortable. NEVER force the dog into the crate. Again, I highly stress getting this book, if you follow the book, your puppy raising experience will be wonderful!

We have ours in the living room. It makes a great conversation piece when company comes over! Right on the other side of the wall is our bedroom and we leave the door open so we can hear her if she started crying.
