Re: Rottie trying to attack other dogs

Annie, your English is better than many native speakers! :)

Thank you for the compliments. I will always take the oppertunity to educate people about Schutzhund, especially when the preconception is so very different from what it really is.

Thanks again!

Re: Rottie trying to attack other dogs

Noelle your post on Schutzhund is very interesting. I have started my boy in it but he is only 12 months old and I am learning too.

06Hoss ... The Sch training is amazing. I've been to doggy schools and training centres where there are a lot of supposed training but a lot of unruly dogs too.

When you see the level of obedience with the SCh dogs it is just amazing. And the nice thing is the dogs want to do it - you can tell by the way they walk at heel, their body language. They are pleased to be there. The other training schools I've been to the dogs are bored. Yes, they might heel but they don't do so with any enthusiasm - it's just because they know they have to.

In regards to the aggression .. as Noelle said the SCh training level is so high in obedience, your dog WILL listen to you once you too get to that level.

This other guy sounds like Mr Dodgy to me using outdated methods with no positive outcome for the dog.

Re: Rottie trying to attack other dogs

Excellent posts, Noelle. Well stated.

While finding a trainer who uses more up-to-date methods should be the priority, I would also encourage the OP to educate himself with a few books. There are several out there on this sort of problem. In fact, I believe Danita started a thread not too long ago!

ETA: And here that thread is. http://www.rottweiler.net/forums/tra...tive-dogs.html
