| Potty Training Does anyone have any hints. We can go weeks without accidents and then we have 2 or 3 in one day even after she has been outside. |

| I think it is normal to have a few slip ups here and there while they are still puppies, I have found that the accidents we had, either occured because the dog was in a different room such as being in the living room, when normally out in family room will go to patio door and scratch with paw...or if excited, will just "forget" and go. You can usually tell when they start sniffing, it's time to go. You have to keep such a sharp eye on them all the time and it seemed like the minute I turned my head, he would start going. I would say if it is happening sporadically it is okay. Something happening daily could be a sign of a medical problem.. :( Good luck. :)

| Sorry, forgot to add, be sure to give extra praise when the puppy does go on its own or lets you know it has to go, especially during those mistake times, so they know how important and good they are for going outside every time. ![]()

| Cecky, how old is your pup and has anything changed at all, also how do you react to your pup when she does have an accident. They can read right through us so if you're stressed or upset for any reason it could and sometimes does affect them. It's not uncommon though to have accidents ocassionally. I remember bragging to our vet about Czar and he chuckled and said, "you're not out of the woods yet." So relax, give lots of praise when she does go outside, stay cool and calm and all will work out. Judy |

| Thanks for the replies. When an accident happens if I see her do it I say Rajah no and take her out. If I do not see her do it I get kind of upset and then I yell at the mess and say that the mess is bad. Then I take Rajah out. I guess I shouldn't be too upset, but it is very upsetting when you think they are trained and then surprise you are very wrong ![]() |

| Cecky, hang in their and don't get upset when she goes in the house, I know that's easier said then done but when you're upset they get upset. You'll look back at this day and really don't expect her to be fully potty trained till about the age 4 months, now that may vary, it depends on the dog. Did I miss her age? Better days are coming and if it continues and seems out of the ordinary you might want to get her checked for a UTI, that would also cause frequent urinating. Best of luck to you. Judy |

| Judy, Thanks for the advice. She is actually 5 months now. She did have a UTI which I realized when she wet in her sleep. Being a new mom I called the vet right away and took her in to have it check and it is all cleared up now. She usually tries to tell us and I know that sometimes it is our fault and not her's. Also is it possible that she is marking? Thanks again Becky |

| Cecky, A UTI can set them back and it's not uncommon for it to return so you might want to have her UA checked again just to put your mind at ease. My pup had one too and that just prolonged the training a bit. But as I said before, if you can keep yourself calm you'll see a difference in her, I know, I was in your shoes. Please let us know how things are going. I know she may be a bit old for this but if she has another accident in the house wipe it up with a paper towel and take that outside with you, put it on the ground, let her sniff it, leave it their till next time, it's just a reminder of where she should tinkle. Hang in their, one day soon she'll go for hours without having to go out. My Czar was very difficult to potty train but now at 10 months he goes endless hours without going. It's been very humid here and in the 100's I couldn't get him out all day cause he knew it was waaaay to hot. Judy |
