8 month old female rescue

I have an 8 month old female that just started being a member of my home. She came come from a loving family that was not able to keep her due to health problems in the family.

She has had not had any formal obedience training.

THe first day she was very clam and spent most of the day sleeping by my feet. Day two is much more comfortable and the following behavior is showing.

When walking in the yard only she wants to grab your feet as you walk. No pressure just grabs on when your feet move.

I have had particiapted in obedience classes and usually a stern "no" would suffice for a correction. When you give her a stern no, she looks at you barks and keep on going with what she was doing.

Will be taking her to classes in two weeks when the class starts.

Should I keep her on a lead in the house for a bit until she responds to a corrective no?

She is a beautifull girl and a great temperment and the typical rotti I want to be by you or touching you all the time :-).

This is my first rescue my other rotti was raised from a puppy by me.

All help would be greatly appreciated.

Zeus is now 8 months and did the same thing. It took repititious correction for him to stop this for some reason. Now he is just an outstanding obedience trained rottie. Weekly classes help but this foot headbutting was weird.

Is this a rottie thing? I've had rotties do that before, and they seem to "outgrow" it, along with training of course, and it always seems to be the same age. Do they ever stop testing you? I swear it's like having more children, but they never grow up!

I have learned to carry a toy with me when we're in the yard. Now when so goes for my ankles I distract her with the toy. She was only doing in the yard, now she has started to do it int he house. I'm the only person in the household she doest it to.

Second obedience class is this week. THe trainer told me that when she jumps up to turn my back to her and hold my arms against my chest. Carly now waits for me to do that then jump up amd nips the back of my arms and barks at me once then stands there with her wiggle butt going 100 mph. It's time to bite her back

Agreed. There are big sins and little sins and this is not a little one. I know many have the philosophy that if a behavior is ignored, it will go away. This is usually wishful thinking and unfair to the dog. Many things they do are self-rewarding. It is your job to let them know what is not acceptable in whatever fashion is needed for that individual dog. I believe ignoring bad behavior is lying to the dog by omission and is usually recommended by people who do not want to take responsible action. The sad thing is, that after something has been given tacit permission to continue, stronger corrections are usually necessary than would have been otherwise. Get it stopped.
