upper level obedience

I want to take my rottie on past basic obed. and there seems to be no one in the kansas city area that does this with the owner. Lots of trainers want to take your dog and train it but I want to be the one working my dogs. I don't want to leave them to be trained by a stranger. Anyone out there know someone in Kansas or Missouri that trains these guys past basic?

Have you contacted your local kennel club? Mo & I encountered something similar with our foster, Moxie. We're looking for obedience class for her. The local humane society has basic good dog-type classes, but since we're thinking of competitive obedience with her, we don't think these classes would suit us. I called our local kennel club and we'll be taking class thru them.

babesmom,

AngelBunny's right, your local kennel club is definitly a great resource. I would also suggest going to a local obedience competition and ask the competitors where they have trained. Word of mouth is a great resource.

AngelBunny, has Moxie become a permanent addition to your family?

Go the the AKC link to a geographical list of clubs and see if there is one in your area. www.akc.org/dic/clubs/states/

that's a great link for the AKC club contacts !

here's another suggestion - go to an all-breed dog show sponsored by a local club in your area and do two things:

1) ask at the club booth to get the contact number for the obedience chairman - or try to meet the person at the show and ask for suggestions of training classes or clubs.

2) hang around the Open and Utility rings and try asking those who are competing where they train - ask after they compete of course.
