German Commands

Hi everyone!!! I am training my puppy with german commands. My breeder and several other rottie owners I know, do this. But so far, I have only been able to find a partial listing of the german commands. Could someone please tell me where I could find a complete list. Some commands I can figure out for myself (I do speak just a little German), but I want to be consistent with the words other rottie owners are using. Any help with this would be appreciated.

Oh, before anyone says to ask my breeder for his list, I have. He hasn't been able to get it copied for me yet, so I'm left with only a few commands that I know for sure. Kiara has been home now for about a week and a half, and I don't want to put off teaching her certain commands just because I'm not sure what they should be.

I appreciate any help you can give me!!! And all the help you have already provided to me, thank you!!!
:) :) :)

Humm, why not use your primary language that you are most comfortable and familiar with?

If you email me I will forward a link to a site with a complete German Command list. I am unable to open it right now.

Can someone fill me in on what is the big deal with using German commands as opposed to the language one speaks at home? I never understood it.

Primarily the thought is that since the average Joe Schmoe doesnt know German then he cant control your dog. From what i can tell its something that is pretty big with schutzhund and ring sport as well as protection training. I personally did it because I like to see peoples faces when i can say a word they have never heard and my dog concentrating on my face and instantly doing it. It definately adds a little something when you can say" my dog is bi-lingual."

Here's a site with commands in several languages, including German. The rest of the site is worth a look too.

As for why German commands? It's just a custom in some dog sports like Schutzhund. Personally I like having two sets of commands, English for casual stuff around the house and German for formal, strictly enforced not-to-be-denied commands.

Not to mention, when you say something in German it just sounds so much scarier!

Just kidding. (It does, though!)

Here is a site, that tells you the commands in english and German - there are also sound files you can download, so you know you are saying them correctly.

Dogs respond to sounds not to specific languages. It doesn't matter if the dog is taught basic commands in Russian, Hungarian, Spanish, Italian, German, French, English, ect., it makes not difference to the dog. Imagine if you get a Shar-Pei and you choose to training him in Chinese... :D

I trained my first Rott in english and I often wondered if he got confused when I would disipline the kids with a harsh NO. I feel it will benifit both the kids and the dog if the have their own corrections. That way no one will be confused :D
I plan on training our new baby (when he arrives) in German.
