Puppy Classes

We need some advice on training. our pups are 13 weeks old now and they start puppy kindergarten this week. the trainer suggested after the kindergarten class the start the puppy manners class. My question is this. can someone tell me what classes the pups shold be in and in what order. This trainer is very well know in our town and has operated this dog school for 20 plus years, so we will start with her. I just want to make sure we are enrolling them in the right classes. thanks, time of course is of the essence.

Wink Re: Puppy Classes

The kinds of classes and topics covered range a great deal from school to school. It depends on your goals and how committed you are to attending various classes but I think the most important thing to consider for your pups is the training methods your trainer uses and what his creds. are. I have changed my puppy classes drastically even in the past 5 years. I now include 16 different behaviors (sit/down/wiat/stay/leave it/watch me/By me (heel on either side) etc.. as well as problem solving (house training, puppy nipping..etc) desensitizing to different things such as bikes, skateboards, handling, and even cover grooming (eyes/ears/teeth/nails/coat). This may sound a bit overwhelming but I do this because I find that about 70% of class participants will never seek out another class so I try to send pups out as prepared as I can. I do of course strongly encourage everyone to keep going with their OB and sport classes.

The best bet I think is to see what your trainer offers and then ask if you can view some of his classes as well as talk to other about their experiences with him.

Good Luck!
