Icon9 rescue w/fear issues

I took Kasey in over a year ago from rescue. He was so badly abused it took for ever for him to not be afraid. He was found in awful shape battered and bruised. Now he is comfortable w/me my daughter in-law and the grandkids. He absolutely HATES MY SON. He hides from him and will now try to lunge at him when he turns to walk away. I have corrected him severely. He has NEVER EVER shown aggression toward me.
He makes me very nervous...I work w/him a lot but this agression toward my son just seems to be deepening and I know Nick has done NOTHING to cause it. What can I do???? I don't want to give this dog up yet, if he bites he will be put down. Would a muzzle be a choice for when my son comes around?

I suppose that the dog is abused by a young male. That why he acts the way he does towards your son.You can't solve this on your own (or with help from over the web).Find a behaviourist to help you with this issue. It's more difficult to cure then you think.

Re: rescue w/fear issues

I agree that you need to find outside help here. A good dog trainer (with a high degree of behavioral knowledge regarding aggression) or behaviorist (one who not only talks a good game but has handling dogs experience (unfortunatly few do)) is needed so that you can better understand the problem and come up with a solution that fits into what you are doing in a safe manor.

In the short term how old is your son? Is he scared of the dog? Has the dog tried to bite him when he has approached the dog or is it only when he walks away?

Answer these three questions and we may be able to get you started but in the end you will need professional help.

Mick.

My son is 28. He is a dog lover and has tried w/this guy. Not a thing works so far. Not openly scared at all. He will turn around and tell him NO. The dogs runs away but comes back the minute he turns his back.
