| Treadmill training Help. Our weather has been horrible and I want to teach my Rotti to use our treadmill. She will not walk with the belt moving and it is impossible to physically keep her on the treadmill. She will walk all over it while it is not moving, but the minute I barely turn it on, she is outta there. Karen |

| Re: Treadmill training If you do a search here on "treadmill" you will find some other threads on this issue. If memory serves, most people did not endorse the idea of exercising dogs on a treadmill, particularly puppies and youngsters. One of the threads talked about mental exercise, including tracking and other things to do inside, that will burn energy and tire a dog out. Spring IS coming soon!

| Re: Treadmill training I don't agree with using a treadmill either. There are plenty of other ways to exercise your dog's mind and body. It gets brutally cold here too sometimes and we figure out other activities that are stimulating. I bundle up and get outside to take them on walks too, just because I don't feel like going out doesn't mean the dogs should suffer. I do know that OK has been getting REALLY bad weather lately...BUT, I still don't like the idea of a treadmill, use your imagination! Get your dog to THINK, that tires them out too! |

| Re: Treadmill training For the treadmill, I have been told to put an X-pen around it. It will keep them on. Do you have a Bass Pro Shop in your area?? They allow you to take dogs in. I take my girl there often just to get the exercise and interaction with people. I think it is a good thing for her, and since she loves everyone, is very gentle, and unrufflable, I think it give people a good look at the Rottie, instead of the bad things they have always read and heard of. Or, if no Bass Pro, any stores that will allow dogs, other than pet stores? Someplace you can take them for stimulation and interaction, and exercise?? |
