Icon5 Trainers in Rochester NY area?

I am looking for some reccomendations for a good trainer in the Rochester NY area. We are on our third basic OB class through Lollypop farm which is going well. I would like to find a trainer that can help me evaluate my 1 y/o female's potential. My husband would love to do therapy work with her eventually and I would like to explore the option of search and rescue. We are going to need alot more OB classes but I would like to find a trainer that has experience with working breeds. Can anyone from the area help point me in the right direction?

Try Boom Towne Canine facility. I'm signing Hudson up for "Simple Basics" starting March 22 (I think) this is where I board him and I love the people there. I don't know the trainers though.

Re: Trainers in Rochester NY area?

I have the highest regard for Dog obedience Training Club of Rochester NY (DOTCORNY). They have all sorts of classes, including those for showing dogs and those for therapy training. They are REALLY serious about training dogs. They also sponsor some of the local dog shows. I personally know some of the instructors, who own and train working breeds.

I have found the classes at Lollypop Farm to be basically worthless for those who want to seriously train a working dog. They are designed more for the casual owner who just wants to say "Oh yeah, my dog went to obedience classes."

DOTCORNY is in the phone book.

Thank you very much for this info.... After our third OB class at Lollypop I totally agree with your assessment. They mean well but I have to admit I was very suprised with the lack of interaction from the instructor. I watched a gentleman play tug-of-war with his 120+ lb dog (leash in mouth) and the instructor never made any attempt to assist him. It was very obvious he was a novice owner with a very large rambunctions dog. I have taken 2 other dogs through OB so I suggested my husband do this class. I was quite suprised (unpleasantly) when he told me the exercise they were working on was to tell the dog to "Stay" walk a few feet away then tell the dog to "Come"

The only reason we did this class was because it was a requirement for adoption. I have to admit I did not go into it with very high expectations. Hopefully we can get into a more serious class soon.
