Preparing for the CGC

Well We are taking the test on the 9th if Cash doesnt pass they have it again at a different location I can go to on the 14th and a pratice class on the 11th. I know Gypsy will pass to the point of the passing another dog, my trainer thinks with exerise before the test so there is less tention she will pass, what do you suggest I should do? I will take her to the practice class on the 11 they told me they have a fenced in area where I can do some running with her I explained her situation and they said I had permission to use it. Even if Cash doesnt pass now its no biggy He has a while but if he does I will be thrilled

Re: Preparing for the CGC

Xasha just passed her CGC a couple of weeks ago. I too was worried about the meet with the other dog. It didn't help that the dog was an out of control labradoodle. I was sure she was going to cause Xasha to fail. my husband took her out beforehand and played catch until it was our turn. I think it made all the difference. It got the excitement out of her. I was so proud when he sat her and she just looked at the other dog and then back at Daddy like, "what is wrong with him?!" Anyway, I think the excercise before hand makes a huge difference, especially if they are young. Xasha's just 8 months.

Re: Preparing for the CGC

Kim - on the meet and greet - does Gypsy do okay if you put her in a sit at your side, as you stop to say hello? My boy Bryant did better if his mind was working, so as we approached and started to slow down to say hello, I said "Bryant, SIT" - as he was sitting, I had my arm out to shake hands with the person, then as quick as a flash, it was "Let's GO" and we were moving again away from the friendly strangers.............Bryant barely had time to concentrate on the approaching dog - and to be honest, he was a bit more interested in the dogs sitting around the room waiting to be tested. We also did some serious 'turn & go' exercises out in the parking lot ahead of time to burn off some energy!

GOOD LUCK KIM & GYPSY........
