Re: Accidental command

"Take it outside" means whatever you have in your mouth, go take it outside.

If I give treats, they have to take it outside to eat them. If they bring in wood or twigs from the garden, "take it outside" means the same thing.

Thats not really accidental.

My girlfriend and I do have to spell out places if we dont want madness on our hands, eg "What time are we taking them to the B-E-A-C-H?"

Cause they know that word...

:)

Re: Accidental command

What about R-I-D-E?!

If a dogs "short-term memory" is only a few seconds, how on earth does my dog know what R-I-D-E means?

Re: Accidental command

I accidentally taught my aunt's chow to hump my leg. He was in a humping phase so I brought over a "no" can full of change. He started humping my leg, so we said "no" and tossed it next to him. He picked it up, played with it, gave it back to me, then started humping my leg while watching the can.

At least he's a quick learner.

Re: Accidental command

Yea I gotta watch and not say the word WALK. Zeke could be in his crate relaxing in the breeze way and here that word and he rushes right in the house wagging his tail. Well guess what? I have to take him for that walk or he will not leave me alone.

Re: Accidental command

when we first got Bear we taught him "go to bed" meant go lie down whereever his bed is. It wasn't intentional just that everytime we put him in his crate on that bed, we said go to bed. Now if I even say "bed" he runs and finds his bed and lays down waiting for a cookie.

Re: Accidental command

This thread is too funny. It really does show how smart our dogs are.

Hubby and I had to spell W-A-L-K because they know it if we said the the word. Now Dude has even figured it out when we spell it. So it's now let's go for a stroll, saunter, brief journey (insert any verb that would imply the walk) . We mix up the words we use. Hopefully the random use will keep him from figuring out what we mean.
