| Training lead??? I saw these in one of my dog training books, they go around your waist similar to a belt, it helps in the process of off leash training does anyone know where i can purchase one? Also I was thinking about sending Gypsy to my trainer when I go home for a 3 week training course, it will help with her off leash and distraction training, its a thought,I know alot of you are against it, but I know Kristie and I dont think she is the ype to do any harm to my dog hands on training is also important, and I will continue that as well. Kristie(my trainer) can help with Gypsys dog distraction. she has trained police dogs and her dogs are dog aggressive but they are under such control you would never know it.

| Re: Training lead??? I have a multi function leather lead for Khori. I really like it, because I can do different things with it. As you know I do use the body harness. If I want to let go of the lead, but not unhook the lead, I can bring it up in my hand and tuck it on top of the harness. I hook one end to his flat collar and one end to the harness. I can make it different lengths and you can put it around your waist too. It's not what you put on them, its what you put into it. (training) I will hold my hand relaxed beside me, and if that hand just wanders forward just alittle, it causes him to move up in front of me, so I have to watch that. |

| Re: Training lead??? [quote=GypsysMom;763869] Also I was thinking about sending Gypsy to my trainer when I go home for a 3 week training course, If you have her with a trainer, I really like what mine does. After you get back when you go over there to pick her up. Have a training session with you and her. Then your trainer takes the dog in her car and she follows you home and you do a training session in her home enviroment. It's great that the trainer can do it at her house, but she has to transfer that training over to you. I am able to bounce back and forth now to work with Khori, because he is doing the stuff over there, so now I work with him there, and then at my house where he has the muscle memory on how it use to be. . |

| Re: Training lead??? Being a frugal Yankee, I'm not inclined to pay for something I don't need. I toss the leash over my neck, leaving the free end dangling down my right side. As far as sending my dog away for training, I can't imagine doing this. If one of the reasons of going to class is to strengthen the bond between you and your dog, I don't see how sending your dog away to be trained by somebody else accomplishes this goal. I also don't see how having your dog trained by somebody else makes you a better trainer--assuming, of course, that's a goal you've set for yourself. What are you learning in terms of training if you don't train your dog? If you want to help Gypsy with her off leash training and working under distractions, get in your car and drive her around to new places and work her there. |

| Re: Training lead??? My main concern with Gypsy is other dogs, she is getting better, like tonight we went on our walk and so many lil yappy dogs at the fence I tell her "leave it" and walk on looking forward and she does, I love going to training classes and Gypsy loves to work, i just thought if she had a 1 on 1 trainig course with a professional trainer that I trust and know it may help her with her issues.. I would like to add another dog when I go back to Michigan since I cant take Chopper from my brother -in-law it wouldnt be fair, I think adding that new dog properly wont cause problems but I will use Kristie for help if needed weird how Gypsy gets along with all other rottweilers, just not other dogs, she loved the male in class and he was quite a bit smaller then her

| Re: Training lead??? Ditto basically what AB said, and to add, NOT sending Gunner away for training was the best decision I ever made. It just made have saved his life. Looking back the trainer that was wanting to take him was so full of sh*t I cant believe I didnt see it! That might not be the case with just everyone who wants to board your dog for training- but even then, you really have know way of knowing what and how they are training your dog. You also dont get to see how your dog learns, and what works, what doesnt ect. I have seen the leashes you are talking about on K-9 equipment websites. They have multi functions. I cant say I would really want to tie a leash around my waist though- just not appealing to me I guess? I can see alot of things going wrong with it I think (getting funny images in my head).

| Re: Training lead??? Have you made it clear to Gypsy that she needs to behave around other dogs? My youngest girl, Moxie, the dog I'm training and showing, regards small dogs as prey and she's intolerant of other bossy bitches. Her aggression to small dogs and other bitches is managed by me--it hasn't gone away and it likely won't until she dies. I take her to crowded dogs shows and I watch her. I make sure other dogs don't get in her face and the instant I see her doing something I don't like, she gets a leash pop and the AKKK sound. I don't care what Mox thinks about small dogs and other bitches--she can think all the thoughts she wants about what she'd do if she could get them--BUT she's been trained by me to know that it'd be very very very bad for her if she acts on her thoughts. Why don't you and Gypsy go to this trainer together and have this trainer show you how to control your dog? If Gyspy is like my Moxie, her aggression to other dogs won't be cured, it'll be managed. I just don't get why an owner would want to send her dog away to be trained for something as simple as having good manners and exercising self control. |

| Re: Training lead??? I know it cant be cured and only managed, I love taking her to Kristie not only are her prices right she is a great person and she has taught me alot, Since I cant find a trainer here, I continue doing what she had taught me over the past year, She also said she can work with me and Gypsy in the class setting to help.. Gypsy is ok with the dog next door she will go to the fence and bark but once I say her name and I too make that akkk sound she comes to me and forgets about the dog.. My brother has a dog that he hasnt trained other then a few basic things and that dog will not leave his side for anything he stays right with my brother without a leash, I wish my dog would do that but I know its not possible or a safe thing to do, you never know of other animals behavior, but its nice having the fence to work on her recall she does very well even when the other dog is at the fence so I guess im not doing all that bad

![]() The ones we have are like this in construction and similar in price http://www.quickhitchleash.com/ of course if you know someone who's handy with sewing tack or repairing shoes/bags, you could have one made. Ours got....ahem...chewed so now I have just been working on off leash heeling using a longline and letting it drag behind Bear - it's a little more bulky but just as effective to reel in the dog.

I use the skinny cotton webbing ones. I never thought I would be able to use a leash that thin and always wondered why they didnt sell them ans 1'' thick lol. ( I did fianally find an 1'' x 30' longline online) But one of our lone lines has also been made into a 22' handle free drag line grrr. And I remember the first one we ever bought for a class got pulled into his crate (to close) and was made into 4 leashes! ![]()

The same line tends to be cheaper in a tack shop than in a pet supplies store here....go figure. ![]()
