Re: clicker training

There are a few books to look into: Melissa Alexander's "Click for Joy" and Karen Pryor's "Getting Started: Clicker Training for Dogs" are great ones to start with. I clicker train my current dog and I've found it to be extremely effective and useful.

Re: clicker training

Thanks!

Looking forward to getting my clicker!

I never heard of it before until my 19 year old son told me.

Re: clicker training

Now that I've done clicker training for my dog in agility? I would use no other method! It's positive, happy and fun...and it prompts the dog to think and offer responses. Believe me! They are very proud when they "get it!"

Clicker Training Lessons - How to be a Good Leader This should give you nearly all the information you need! Click thru the specific "lessons" on the left. Covers any lesson topic I could possibly think of! GOOD LUCK!!

Re: clicker training

I puurchased "Clicking with your dog" by Peggy Tillman after clicker training was recomended for my dog Arwen. She is VERY food motivated and sometimes wouldn't do what was asked of her without seeing the treat. When it turned into a "brib" instead of a treat, out came the clicker. It has worked VERY well, and it's nice to have a jump start as her agility class says "some clicker" and she already understands it. She caught onto the clicker right away, within 2 minutes she could touch her nose to anything I put a target stick against.

Re: clicker training

I taught my pup, Maia, to "high five" and put her head down on the floor when lying down in about 5 minutes in one session for each behavior with clicker training and she even remembered it the next day. She actually looks forward to working on behaviors. We love clicker training!

Re: clicker training

Thanks for the replies.

I just got my clicker. I've just done some basic stuff with Damien
so far. I have to read up on some more.
