Using more than one crate??? OK, I have a silly question for ya all http://www.rottweiler.net/rottie/biggrin.gif I was thinking about putting a crate in our livingroom for our new pup. Now, I WILL also have a crate in the kitchen too. I was thinking the crate in the livingroom would be a nice place for him to chill out and yet still be around his people. The kitchen will be his primary "den." though. My questions is, will this do nothing but confuse him? Or is this just not a good idea from the get go? http://www.rottweiler.net/rottie/confused.gif Any input would be wonderfully taken http://www.rottweiler.net/rottie/smile.gif Michelle

Crates tend to multiply as fast as rabbits. My philosophy: you can never have too many crates. If you are going to have two now, I would get 2 different kinds. A folding metal crate that's easy to store or travel with, and a plastic airline type that is sturdier and approved for shipping (you never know). I currently own more than twice as many crates as I have dogs - some set up in the van, some folded up to take to shows, one or more set up in the house, one in the garage, one stored in the closet... they just keep spreading everywhere.

We have always used two crates with our pups, one in the bedroom and one in the kitchen. We have never had a problem of confusion on the pup's part. They just have two dens. Like Mary DVM we have a lot of crates. Whenever I am at a garage sale and see one I have to buy it, it has saved us a lot of money over the years, we have been able to lend them out to other people who have needed them.

Michelle, 2 or more crates shouldn't be a problem. When Marshall was smaller, I was using the 300 size in the kitchen, and 400 in the bedroom. Now I have the 500 set up for him in the house, but when I take him places, I still use the 400. He doesn't seem to have any problems or confusion. When are your getting your new pup? Is it a Rottie????

As Mary said, you can never have too many crates. I have 4 in the van, 2 in the office, 1 in the bedroom, 3 or 4 stored in my shed and at least 2 out on loan. Having 2 crates should not confuse the puppy at all. Another idea, and what I do, is set up an x-pen in the living room. It gives more room like a playpen for a baby. ------------------ Carol Darrlburg Rottweilers
