Went to first puppy class

everything seemed to go well, there was a lab, shepherd,Gypsy and a bichon well Gypsy was kinda shy at first with the bigger dogs but she was right with the bichon, she knocked her over and the bichon squeled, then she grapped her ear so she wasnt allowed to play with her (no blood) the trainer said she knows her bite hibtion (spelling) but she bites a bit to hard still, Hopefully next week she learns more

After this Im putting her in Basic Ob. She is so very smart and I want to progress to Advance then Agility,

Also she is 25 pounds at 13.5 weeks is that a good size or does it seem too small?? and Im hoping by Rott Stock she can maybe get her cgc if she is old enough

Re: Went to first puppy class

Her weight sounds about right. If she's anything like Serena she should gain about 1-3 lbs per week. We just went to week 3 of basic Obedience. We're in class with a litter of 4 Masiff rescues, a GSD and a boxer mix, all Puppies!! We do great when we can get all the puppies to calm down. Week one I don't think any of us really excersised our pups, now we all come in with our pups sleepy, makes it much easier. LOL

Re: Went to first puppy class

Hi All...Deja Vu has had her two weeks of training lessons so far. We have a private trainer that comes to the house 1x per week, until the puppy class start date of July 8. She is doing well...although a bit stubborn... she's having difficulty getting that little wiggly bum down for the "down" command... She "sits" instantly and definitely knows her name...although at times I think she has "selective hearing"... much like her older human sisters did when they were teens...LOL...I know we won't be ready for the CGC testing by RottStock, but Moses might...he has all of his basics down wonderfully (he had started to act out after Sasha passed in Feb.) He is my 5 yo male that has "lost" himself with all of the dynamic changes in the family. He doesn't know how to react to things...Sasha passed (7 1/2) and Samson (10) has cancer with a few months left. So although he is confused, he has responded phenomenally to training. I think it gives him something to focus on...YEAH...

We always do our "training" following our long morning walk...it makes it easier for the wee little one to focus....

HA! I do the same with my 18 month old pooch...lol! Or else I'd have to peel him off the walls....I wonder if he'll ever calm down...

I refer to Serena as the "Mule". Stubborn is almost an understatement!

Re: Went to first puppy class

GYpsy is far from stubburn she learned down real fast, no she hasnt mastered it yet but she is almost there, she is very food motivated so she will pretty much do anything for food, she was quite tired yesterday with being at the boarders then going to class, I feel bad she was being a "buly" to the bichon, the other 2 dogs just couldnt catch her, GYpsy is fast she had no issues on that part lol What I didnt understand was their rule is f there is no blood then everthing is ok and there wasnt any but she couldnt play anymore and we did some basic testing and talking, people looking funny, vacuum, other things like that. Next week We are working on ringing a bell for potty time, so I have to bring in a bell, this should be interesting since I havent been able to teach that, mostly everything the trainer discussed in the session I knew such as taking bones from them putting your hand in their food etc...

Oh and one thing that was funny was the bichon owner when I first got there she looked at Gypsy and said "what kind of dog is she? a pitt bull" LoL now Chopper I understand the confusion with him but not a tail-less black and tan dog

I think I would have been inclined to ask her when was the last time she had her eyes checked and offer the advice that perhaps she needed to be fit for glasses....

We also have the bite inhibition issue but it's getting better. She plays with her 5 yo rottie brother and sometimes they can get rough...so we are toning this down to help her understand better.
