Jumping puppy

Jazmin has been miss jumpy for the past couple weeks. She doesn't approach people like she used to, she wants to jump on them. We're not starting her obedience class till Nov. 28th. But I'd like to nip this in the butt before then and it's quite embaressing when she jumps on people (she's 52 lbs and pretty tall).

She just started doing this recently, she did it when she was a puppy and we worked on her sitting when she gets petted by people. Well now she goes bunkers whenever we see someone she knows and the first thing she wants to do is to jump on them, she calms down and sits but first the annoying jumping. How can I cut it out?

Re: Jumping puppy

Boris was terrible with this. when we first got him he was always on a lead in the house, and of course if outside walking. the only way to stop him was a good collar pop and vocal command. we had a lot of trouble when we would go to let him out of his crate or kennel. it was hard to keep him from jumping on us when he was so excited. turning our back, knees, grabbing paws, nothing worked. John started taking a squirt bottle out and giving him a sit command, and a squirt in the face for maniac jumping. I grabbed his collar or scruff and commanded SIT. he finally has (almost always) stopped.

Re: Jumping puppy

We have this jumping problem too but only with certain people. Harley doesn't do it with us anymore but when people come to visit she does. Some of our friends and family are more assertive with her and she listens but then there's the ones that laugh and giggle when she does it and she thinks it's a game then. We have talked to them and told them she in training and to be firm with her. I'm going to try the water bottle thing and she how she responds to that. Thanks for the idea.
