Help Me And Rocko

Myself and my Fiance are the proud owners of Rocko our beautiful 11mo old moose of a rott. He is for the most part a very good dog he is great on the leash he never has an accident in the house, he clams down quickly when a guest comes over, but when the two of us just want to relax he wont let us it is impossible for us to just sit down and watch a movie with out him wanting to play or barking at us. I cant get him to stop???? and i dont know what it is i should do. He loves to chew on his bones but he only is able to do that for so long until he is bored. SOMEONE HELP ME

A tired dog is a happy dog... Sounds like your boy needs some physical and mental stimulation... Play hide the toys... go for a long walk before and after work. Make it a time to relax and spend time with the family... Then later on he should happily lay and nap or chew a bone becasue he is tired.

Re: Help Me And Rocko

My pup does the same thing and i know it can be quite irritating. Follow what trackermom said regarding a long walk before settleing in for the evening. It is also important that Rocko doesn't see bothering you as a fun game to play. I recomend having a bed or blanket that Rocko can lay on while you watch a movie. Train him to lay there and not to bother you. If he does correct him and if need be give some quiet time in another room untill he understands. It may take a few attempts but he will learn to lay quietly eventually. G

Is he crate trained? after he has had his play and training time, supper and everything else, it is reasonable to expect him to go to sleep in his crate.

Jake is 10/11 mos and did and sometimes does the same thing. We let him bark and avoid making any eye contact with him. He will bark maybe 4 times and then lay down with a huge dramatic sigh and leave us be

I am cracking up about the "huge dramatic sigh"! We call it the "big doggy sigh". It is so funny.

I also agree with what you said........our pup used to do the same thing as soon as we sat down to watch tv after dinner. I would either put her on her bed in a down stay or ignore her and she would get tired of it and go lay down on her own. Now I just tell her "settle" and she goes to lay down.

Re: Help Me And Rocko

Try the avoid eye contact bit, it's actually tough at first, a little like listening to your baby cry at bed time. You don't have to do a down stay, just totally ignore them. After a day or two of this they kind of get the hint!
