| Working on the 'Stand' Okay, so I have Frau to 'stand' when I move my hand in front of her face and say 'stand'. She does it everytime now (yay) However, instead of just popping her butt up, front feet still, she steps foreward and stands that way. So she ends up with her chest against my thigh instead of her head. I clicker with her to pinpoint the exact moment we're looking for, and it is helping (she used to stand and take a couple steps, now it's just one). As she starts to stand I keep the leash tight so she can't step foreward, but she usually won't stand then, even with a hand under her belly. I actually have to lift her up. And if you so much as breath on her funny she sits back down again (darn me and my infernal sit training!). I don't know how picky my trainer is about this (at this point I think he's just happy to get the dogs up!) but *I'm* very picky. So if I'm ruining her with my perfectionism, just let me know and I'll back off. I do't want to make her hate obed! When she gets it right I make a huge deal out of it.

| If this is an obedience stand, she is correct. (good girl Frau). You are allowed to take as much time and stand her in any fashion you please, then stand up in the heel position and give your stay command (hands off the dog at this point) and leave. I always want the dog to walk into the stand (which is what she is doing) as that way I am assured their feet will be comfortably placed and unlikely to move. You are asking her to pop her rear up which will leave her like a corquet hoop or trying to brace her front feet and hop her rear feet backwards. Don't make something easy, hard.

| Re: Working on the 'Stand' Okay, thanks. Sorry for the delayed reply, I was gone all weekend. I didn't realize it was okay to walk into a stand, as the 'demo dog' my trainer used lifted his back end up, and he never mentioned anything about it one way or the other. No wonder I was having a hard time for her to lift her butt and not move foreward. So good for her! She's better at this than I am!
