I pay $90 for an 8 week course. 45 minutes, once a week. I think that's long enough, most dogs are pooped (especially the pug!) by the time class is done.

My brother paid $180 in Toronto for his previous dog. He took his new dog to a beviourist, she did two hours of instruction and testing at her business and charged them nothing. That's impressive!

Oh well, Mom says we're doing fine with him, and we are, he's never mean to anyone and we're using two books, 101 Tips to training your dog, and The Everything Rottweiler Book. According to the 101 book, Buck has a submissive personality, and he doesn't have many behaviour problems except licking up and down your arm but he's so sweet, I don't really mind it, but it tickles. ^_^ I just want him to be happy. :)

Monica please consider classes even though mom thinks he is doing fine. Rotties are very smart! Mine put his head in the trash can pulled it over to be able to reach the bottom where a empty pack of treats were. I seen him lick the bag put it back in the trash and set the trash can back up . The empty bag of treats was all that was in there.I have had 2 rotties, and I truely think they are in your dogs and families best intrest. Is this your first rottie? How old is he? About 10 months? Males seem to be in a puppy/kid like stage till they are about 18-24 months.Females longer 3 years or so, my female is 9years old, and still silly. But the best dog I ever owned! You may not see any problems now but that don't mean there might not be problems in the future. Classes teach you more than the dog. And because rotties are very powerful my instructor gave me more one on one time. Its a good idea for a instructor who knows the breed better than you to see him to, because they might see things you dont see.I have had rotties for 10 years, I know a little so if you have any questions I'll be more than happy to help. You can email me to. I have seen good and bad things in that 10 years time. One thing for sure no one can say100% they know there dog. Because it may come back and bite you in the butt! Situations and circumstances around your dog change constantly. Things you can not help but it is good to be prepared. You sound like you love your dog very much, for his protection and yours take him to class. Lots of people say bad things about rotties and they may go out of there way to give you or him a hard time. I had a old women lived beside me. I caught her leaning over my fence( about 5 foot high) and hitting my rottie in the face with a rake! She couldnt reach him without it. I let him out in a fenced in area and watched him from the window. She didn't know that. He could of done 2 things. He did the right thing and ran to my door and I proceded to blow up on my neighbor. I got to go I could talk all day. Sorry for any miss spelling I am not so good at spelling. Take care all !

I paid 32 pounds for 8 classes, and the trainer is excellent, he owns a rottie and is an ex police dog trainer. I've been too 3 classes so far, and the last class he used my dog as an example and it was excellent watching someone else taking control. Training classes are great for the dogs and for us, i would recommend them to anyone with a dog. Hope you have as much fun as i do, and that you find the right trainer to suit you and your dog

Re: Training Prices?

My obedience club charges $70 for an 8 week seession and that includes a leash & collar. We also have classes sponsored by the city that run $50 for 8 weeks. For privates I charge $45 per session which does not neccesarily mean an hour. It could run less or more depending on the dog, the people, etc.

Re: Training Prices?

I am currently paying $200 for a 4 week course- meeting twice a week, individual sessions included per request.........but like J.B. says, you get what you pay for, and I have been completely satisfied and impressing with my female (trained by him) for 1.5 years now.

Those are the training facilities that won't be in business 2, 4 or even 8 years down the line.

Teamcamacho, I don't live too far from you and I just signed up for an 8-week course @ a training facility in McHenry. Went to the first class this past Thursday and so far so good!

8 weeks (sessions) for $95. Let me know if you're interested and I can give you the info.

Re: Training Prices?

I'm switching my training to a licensed USA club - a Schutzhund club. In order to actually join the club, I need to be ready to put a BH on my dog [my 1 yr old male]. Since I've been taking standard AKC oriented classes with him, I've paid $75.00 per 8 week class. I'm not terribly satisfied, hence my finding a club to attend. What I've been given was a 4.5 hour evaluation of my dog by 4 people with vastly more experience than I have. One is a nationally ranker helper, another is a working police officer and master trainer, another is the helper's apprentice trainer and there's the club's president who also runs the K9 facility as a means of supporting the dog sport aspect. Normally I'd have shied away, but after meeting with them, seeing them in action, working my dog with them in some basics, allowing them time to evaluate my dog for stability and suitability, and discussing what I'll need to get my BH and then SchHI on my dog, I've signed up. It will cost me $1500.00 for the BH, and that includes unlimited lessons, 3-4 hours per day, Saturday and Sunday and depending on the schedule of the school, perhaps some evenings. I'll get the training from the "team", versus one person, though my training will be overseen by the training director. Once I achieve the BH with my dog, I'll be eligible for the club, and can join for $10.00 per dog and $48.00 a month for every month I'm a member. The trainers all have multiple titles on their dogs [3 have SchHIII, the other has a SchHII and is trialing this weekend for his SchHIII with his dog]. These guys have 9 club members, all who've come in raw and untried and they've titled the dogs, multiple times over. I'm guaranteed a BH or half my money back. There's no limit on how long it takes me either; 6 months or 2 years. One woman club member has 3 Rottweilers, another lady has a GSD and a Rottweiler and there's even a PitBull with a BH so far, working on the SchHI.

I'd rather spend a bit more and get truly indepth training than Petsmart style junk or the sort of cookie cutter stuff too many places teach.

Re: Training Prices?

My private training center is $130 for six weeks. about $22 a session.

At the local AKC training club it is $75 for either 6 or 8 weeks depending on the class. But getting into agility there is next to impossable. So we are just starting "pre agility" which focuses on obedience and handeling quite a bit at the private training center.
