Training Under Distraction

That term took on a whole new meaning tonight. Blitz had advanced ob. class. All was going well. Then we started setting up for the out of sight stays. We down our dogs, start to leave them. One of the dogs starts growling...we thought at first he was growling at the tiny dog near him. The Border Collie started to whine. Blitz had her head cranked all the way over her back. It took a few seconds to see it because it was dark, but sauntering by about 30 feet away from us went a CAT! To everyones credit, no one broke a stay, but we all rushed back in to stand on leashes and give praise where it was due. So...something to practice!! Moving animals in the background. Now THAT'S a good use for a dog park! Stay outside the park and work on ob. exercises....

Good girl Blitz!

That is exactly what I have used a dog park for. Really helped with the recalls and stays with lots of distraction.

wow, that is remarkable obedience. I have to wonder how many dog's in Hilda's class would have stayed!! if outside the fence, probably most of them. If 30' away, if 10' ?? wonder what then!

Wow, what a good girl Blitz is!!!

In our advanced OB class one week, our trainer brought in a chicken to put in the middle of the room. I was trying to breathe the whole time & not freak out. Julius, of course, was just doing his silly head tilts!

Good girl, Blitz!!
