Cool private trainer; im very excited!

I just spoke with a man in my area about rotties. He shows, trains and competes in Schutzhund, has stud dogs and is a firm believer in Code of Ethics breeding. He was a K9 police officer/handler and has owned rotties for 20 something years. I called him because I wanted to know what he recommended for obedience in our area. He said most of the best have moved away, but he will work with me and Leo (our rott mix) in the spring when he is a little older (14 weeks now). Leo is in puppy kindergarten starting this Thursday and he said to go ahead and start that so he will have even more socialization and a little foundation. He said call him when we are ready and we will get the training started and work from there. I was getting a little discouraged about finding a trainer in my area. We live in Kansas. Do you think I should go for it?
He said he is going out of town to a Show in Denver this weekend but call if I have any other questions or concerns.

Perosnally, I like to watch a training session or two before I think seriously about working with a trainer. I think most people who hope interested in Schutzhund join a Schutzhund club as opposed to training privately...

He is not really a private trainer. Im not training in Schutzhund. He offered to do some basic obedience with us. Im dont have the time to even think of Schutzhund. He is just going to help me out. Im a first time owner of even a mix. I have known many rotties though all wonderful. I do love the breed. He is a little info on him. Without name and demographic, web info.

"I HAVE OWNED ROTTWEILERS SINCE 1975, I USED MY FIRST ROTTWEILER AS A DEMO DOG FOR THE POLICE DEPARTMENT, I WAS IN POLICE WORK FOR 17 YEARS, AN A K-9 OFFICER FOR 4 OF THOSE YEARS. I HAVE BEEN A ROTTWEILER ENTHUSIAST EVER SINCE. I AM AN ACTIVE MEMBER OF THE USRC, ARV, AND DVG CLUBS. I ENJOY SHOWING MY DOGS IN THE GERMAN CONFIRMATION RING AND TRAINING THEM IN SCHUTZHUND. I AM A FIRM BELIEVER IN THE CODE OF ETHICS BREEDING, AND ALL MY DOGS HAVE BEEN BREED TESTED AND OFA CERTIFIED. "

Sorry if I did not make sense before.

Thansk for the clarification. There are so many different approaches that trainers use I still like to see them in action first. If that is not possible I would start asking questions so you can get a feel for his training philosophy.
