3 Steps Back Exercise...

...for Rally. I think we got it!! It's not entirely consistent, but Blitz totally has the idea of what she's supposed to do! I think when I can get my own stride smoothed out she'll get it even better. Right now I'm so busy watching and directing the dog and counting my steps I forget how to walk right! But there's tons of time for perfection!
The other exercise that Blitz is confused by is the halt side step right halt. She wants to stay sitting and wait for me to step and stop before she picks her butt up. Started cueing her with a wooden dowel today tho with good results!!

GREAT I knew you could do it. It IS hard though.

On the side step right, be sure to practice all 4 versions and alternate them so that Blitz watches carefully for what cue you are givng. There are

The moving side step right from Novice where you take a diagonal step to the right while heeling without stopping or pausing

The halt, 1 step right, halt where you halt, leave the dog on a stay/wait, take 1 step to the right so that you halt with your back to the dog and call the dog to heel

the halt 1 step right, halt where the dog comes with you directly to the right

and the 90 degree pivot right where the dog comes with you.

This way she never knows if she needs to stay or come with you.

I think she works nights. Or something

Yikes. I hadn't thought of all those side step rights as being similar, but I guess in a dogs mind they would look pretty dang similar. Will start paying better attention to exactly what I AM saying/doing to cue her.
