Training advice - where to go

Just want to know if anyone has recommendations on what type of training (formalized) to put our puppy into. She is around 12 wks (we think younger). We can hire a private trainer we know, but her availability is spotty. I'd like to get her enrolled in some group classes for socialization, exposure, etc...

The local petsmart has classes, but I didn't get a good vibe from the trainer and I'm not a big believer in "clicker" training. Does anyone know of training groups to recommend or any in the south east michigan area??

Don't knock it till you've tried it, but clicker training is especially great for puppies. ALthough training at any pet box store is not a good idea. Finding a good trainer is a LOT harder than it seems, or should be.

GOOD LUCK!

My last 2 girls, one way trained tarditional methods and one is clicker trained. Both work. However clicker training with an instructor who knows what they are doing beats ANY other method I've tried. HANDS DOWN. I never thought I'd like it. My dog understood right away. Before I tried, I misunderstood it. I would never go back to the other methods.

So train any method you see fit. Your dog, your choice. You're the one who needs to feel comfortable doing it. Have you tried and AKC club search?

Thx for the question, and thanks for the answers. I need to do something ASAP, as far as training for my Big Baby. He still thinks he is a lap dog, though he turned me into a kite last week. Now he is wearing that darned halo again. It is so difficult for me to remain angry at him, but I need to find a place in the Cleveland, OH for him to learn some manners, preferably on the West Side of town.
I did check out the link posted by SabellesMom, and sent an email. Thank you!
My little guy has disappeared, and what I have left is a big guy that doesn't realize that he is not a little guy!
Adopting him was one of the most irrational decisions I have ever made, and there have been many! There is a lot of love between us though!
Again, thanks for all of the advice you extend to idiots like me!
You know he is also like my shadow...follows me everywhere? For a chronic loner it is strange. Do all dogs do this? I refer to him as my Valient Protector!
All he needs now is some manners! Thanks to anyone and everyone that might have some advice to offer!
