Trainer?????

I am really looking for a Trainer for Sativa and this new fella that I am thinking about getting...I live in the eastern panhandle of West Virginia....20 miles from Oakland Md, 45 miles from Cumberland, Md, 75 from Morgantown Wva, and about 65 miles from Winchester Va. I would be willing to travel for classes...My father lives in Annapolis Md so I am familiar with that area too. I have tried to find obdience classes in this area and found one lady who did not want to deal with a 2 yr old rottie......So..I am begging for any information that would help me.....I have tried emailing local HS and have gotten no replys. The one lady I did find was thru my vet. I just feel like I am wasteing Sativas potential and it is burning me up!!!!!

Talking Similar Question

I have an issue similar to craftylady's: I live in Macon, GA and to be honest I can't travel far for a trainer. It's just not in my budget/schedule. I am currently taking Venus through Puppy Headstart at PetSmart, but I see after reading the forums that no one recommends this training. It is rather frustrating actually, because I feel like I have done more wrong than right with her and the last thing I want is a misbehaved dog because I made the wrong decisions in her upbringing.

Have you tried calling instead of emailing? You might get a better response.

Have you considered joining the Macon Kennel Club??? I know SEVERAL people that are members and they are IN THE KNOW with training and at least 4 of these people have Rottweilers.

I don't like the Petsmart in Macon. The trainer seems like a dolt.

I highly recommend Capital Dog Training Club....not sure how far from you they are but I have attended classes with them and they are a good group!!! do a web search on the name and you should come up with the site.

I think there's a little confusion because we have 2 posters looking for training clubs. One in GA, and one in WV on the MD border.

Sorry, I should have mapquested your location first, craftylady. When you said you were in the eastern panhandle, I thought you meant the Harper's Ferry/Martinsburg area. So those links are way too far for you.

I'm not familiar enough with your part of WV to be much help. Try the AKC club search to see if there is anything close to you.

I apologize if I've muddied up the waters of this thread: yes there are two separate requests here for trainers. I am looking in Macon, GA and craftylady is looking in WV.

I have heard of the Macon Kennel Club, but I didn't know they conducted training. I will definitely look into that. Interestingly enough, I joined the Friends of the Macon Dog Park, where the PetSmart trainer I go to is also a member. I recently went to a Responsible Dog Ownership Day event at the park and found this trainer is/was very active in the Macon Kennel Club as well.

I know nothing about W.V., but Macon seems to have a very active dog community and there is Dogwood Rottweiler Club in Atlanta which I'm sure would have info about trainers in Macon.

I got a lead on a kennel club about 75 miles from me that does therapy dog training...I am so excited!!! I also found a lady that is willing to work with me and Sativa closer to home and she actually owns two therapy dogs. She is really encouraging and we are going to meet on the 11th as she is starting a new class then. I can hardly wait!
