how old is your dog?
i wouldn't do weights of any kind or jumping until at least 12 months to allow the growth plates to properly grow.
what i did for weight training, was pulling.
a car tire on ropes attached to a weight pull harness, and have dog pull tire to help develop the front and back muscles and built stamina.
carting is also a good exercise.
as to actually put weights on dog, no.
roadworking on field, swimming, treadmill, ball playing, flyball, agility and hurdle training are also other methods i have tried.

The muscle that you see on the mature dogs takes time and comes with maturity, often not until the dog is 3 years old or so. You cannot and should not attempt to force it on. It is a natural product of the dog's genetics built on the dog's frame (skeleton) assisted by conditioning.

Swimming can start at any time. At the age he is now, moderate walks and free play are best for him. Remember, he is not a Pittie.

I think swimming is the best, safest exercise for a young dog. I take my 9 month old pup swimming almost every other day now...

he's a baby!
puppy play, swim, puppy obedience and socialization, for now.
like was mentioned earlier...genetics too play part in what he will grow up to be.
swimming is great at any age and most conditions.
enjoy him!he'll be all grown up before you know it.
