Looking at your posts, it seems like your dog could use some formal obedience training. There are many ways to teach a dog not to jump, to remain calm, to stay in one place for long periods of time, but you'll probably learn them best in an obedience class. Find out what there is in your area, how they teach and then sign up for the trainer you're most comfortable with.

excuse me, no offense intended but, how does your dog know about a TRAIN TRIP? How does your dog even know what a TRAIN is?

How soon is this train trip?
Any possibility you can walk her around the train station and even on a train before the day of your trip? No matter, she's going to be filled with excitement. I'd assign my fellow-travelers (hopefully you're not going alone) to take care of luggage, tickets, everything but the dog. You put your full attention on handling the dog. Not coddling, either - firm sits, stays and downs. Help her focus her attention on being obedient.

Not if she is jumping on people she's not!

TRAINING CLASSES - formal classes will help in ALOT of situations....trust us...we've all been there - some of us are going back for more with a 3rd or 4th dog...

I've got an 85 pound jumper upper in my house - far from obedient but not out of control - he's young, almost 3 yrs old. He has been thru Beginner Level 2 training and we're going down a level next session - back to basics for us. He is excitable and jumpy too - but it is NOT tolerated. When new people come over or we are out and about, he is on lead, and I KNOW he'll jump, so I put him in a SIT and stand on the leash so he cannot jump up, can only stand up. If he jumps, he 'self corrects'...he rarely jumps when I am standing on the leash...he knows better.

You can try the "settle"....lay her on her side and hold her there and just keep saying settle...hold her there until she relaxes and then release and praise...make sure she DOES NOT get up until she is calmed and you have released her!

We use "Calm!"

Doc knows when we say it he'll get scratchs if he behaves a certain way. We started by saying it forcfully to kind of shock him into knocking it off. Then we'd say "Good boy!" and give him a butt scratch (his favriote!) We slowly made the break longer, and he figured it out, slowly.

You could also try massage. Or when all else fails and we have a puppy who is being hyper at the wrong time, we will put some peanut butter in a Kong, and he will happily lick it as long as it takes until its gone. If it is frozen first it lasts even longer... We of course majke him calm down before giving him the Kong, so I am rewarding him for say a down, sit, down, here sequence and not for being rowdy..

Either you own more than one dog or someone else is posting under your sig. This is from another of your threads.

"My dog is starting to be weird and im worried. She sometimes snaps at me and to new visitors. "

Perhaps it is time for a reality check and perhaps the dog described in the second quote above is not the best dog to be taking on a long train trip. Of course you love your dog and I'm sure she is a pretty good dog, but to put her in a position of being stressed when she is already letting you know she worries about things is not quite fair to her. It is also not fair to the other people that will be traveling with her if she is starting to snap at people. One of those snaps might connect and become a bite. I'm sure she is sweet and I know you are trying to learn a quick way to make her more comfortable for the trip, but to be fair to her, you need to realize that this type of teaching takes time. To insist on taking her where she will be uncomfortable and worried is not the best choice. You should consider working with her calmly and not trying to meet a vacation deadline, but to make her life better.

I was not talking about a dog being smart at all. I was suggesting that you give your girl whom I know you love, more time to learn things before putting her in a situation that is going to be difficult to her. Doing otherwise is just as unfair to her as your accusations above are to what I wrote.

My guess is that the poster is a young teenager, is that correct LuvinNina? Will you be getting any help from your parents when you are transporting the dog?

Hi Luvinnina25,

No one here is attacking you, We would all like to see you be successful on your trip.
You are mistaking "clear talk" for personal attacks on you and your dog.

Your defensive attitude is not letting you understand what people are saying to you.

You have posted some things that set off "warning bells". The experienced people here can see some serious issues coming towards you like a "train". The advice given is to help you to avoid possible disaster. Please read the threads under "rottweiler news forum" to understand how bad a disaster can be.

A bite or attack could ruin your life, and your dogs. It's deadly serious responsibility. There is certainly a potential for a bite in taking your dog on an extended trip, with stress indicators as you have described. Please be safe as a main priority. It is much more important that you and your dog be safe than it is to even arrive at your destination.

Your trip has potential for being absolutly great, but it also has a greater potential for disaster. This is based on the info you have given us. Please stop being so defensive, and plan for the worst. That way you are prepared for every situation.

Would you prefer that we lie to you and say everything sounds great? If so, you've come to the wrong place.

We would really like to see you be successful with your trip, and your life experience with your dog. Please Please remember that.
