Talking Puppy Training Classes...

Hi - Does anyone know of any great rott trainers and/or puppy classes in southern CT. We would like to start with a group class initially (for the distraction factor and socialization aspects), however most of the trainers we contacted only do private lessons - and they are VERY expensive. We have looked into Petco - and the last class they only had one other "pupil" signed up - and we haven't heard the greatest of things about the pet store trainings. If anyone knows of any reputable and reasonable people/places - we would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!!!

Re: Puppy Training Classes...

I used google to look for "Dog Taining Missouri" and "Puppy class missouri" and it turned up alot of results. Also the AKC website, I have been told, shows some clubs that may have class's.

Re: Puppy Training Classes...

Meka - I live in Oxford CT, about 15 minutes from Shelton. I train at the Obedience Dog Training Club of Waterbury, which is actually IN Oxford, near the airport. Here is a link to their website: ODTCW

It ain't the fanciest of places but they are good people. I teach the Beginner Level 1 Obedience class - lots of fun!!

In Devon/Milford there is Connecticut K-9, right down the road from PetCo, about 1/2 mile or so, heading from Stratford towards Milford on the Post Road

I can tell you to avoid Ken Piccutto's classes - I have heard nothing good from them, and my curiousity was peaked so I contacted him about classes and he told me Ben was aggressive, said he could see it in his eyes...Um, yeah, OK dude....see yah...

FWIW - Ben is a certified Therapy Dog...

Re: Puppy Training Classes...

Thank you so much for your help... and thank you for your advice on the places to use/not use - GREATLY appreciate it. I have one question - the only CT k-9 I found was a facility in Farmington, cT. - and the only listings I found in Devon/Milford was for a Canine Connection and a k-9 communication - which neither sound familiar to me. I am not sure if you have heard anything about either place. Also, does the ODTCW have, or going to have, the "Good Citizen" testing? (I hope that is the correct name!?) Thank you again for all of your help! ~ Beth

Re: Puppy Training Classes...

The AKC training clubs will not have listings in the phone book. You might check the AKC website (club search) and see if there is one close to you also.
