| spring fever for classes! I'm getting so anxious for classes to start. my choices are the dog obedience club classes and the private trainer who holds classes. Hilda has been to both. the beginning obedience with the club was great for socialization, but geared more toward the average dog owner having a well behaved dog rather than obedience titles. both groups have agility classes and beginning obedience, but only the private trainer continues with intermediate and advanced obedience and all her classes are with competition in mind. there was a big shakeup in the obedience club, new officers and a revision of their goals, including regular CGC classes and more long term goals for the classes, so maybe it will be different. I would love it if John would take one of the dogs to class, but I don't think that will happen. depending on what classes they offer which night, I may have to enroll boris in the obedience club classes and hilda in the private group. If I can get both dogs in class the same night, (beginning ob. at 6:30, advanced at 7:30) one will have to wait in the car for their turn. I wonder if that will get them too excited to settle down to work in class? Hilda will be waiting for boris to finish class. Classes were supposed to start in Feb, but they bumped them till March...both groups. All the dog classes share the same outdoor fenced field, and it is in use almost every night. |

| Re: spring fever for classes! These classes are always outdoors then? One of our clubs has both indoor and outdoor facilities. The other is strictly indoor. Both allow crates right inside the building, if you like...or if the dog does better with you in sight or something. I'm looking forward to the weather being nice and being able to have our outdoor classes in a few months. Doesn't warm up enough or stop raining until about May, tho. So I guess I have to wait a while yet. Best wishes with Boris and Hilda. I love those names BTW. They're just so "German"!

| Re: spring fever for classes! I typically leave the non-working dog in the car, as it's simply easier. The Grrrlz are both fine to watch other dogs work, but to watch me working "the other one" tends to get them wound ..... in obedience its workable, in agility, with all the prey drive, etc., it's annoying......simpler to just leave someone outside. They do learn quickly that when you go certain places and then disappear with the other dog, it means you're working them, and yes, that does build excitement, but that's GOOD! It gives you a dog who's excited to work when you get in that door!!

| Re: spring fever for classes! Well I'll go ahead and sign up for both dogs the same night. It's lucky that the beginning class is first. Boris is the more excitable/untrained of the two. Hilda will be the better one to wait! |
