potty training

everyone has been so helpful and i really appreciate it! our pup (6 mos.)is potty trained to a point. she prefers to go outside. if we are home we take her out regularly (3-4 hours). she goes potty on demand and is very good at that. the problem we have is that she won't convey to us her need to go outside. sometimes she'll sit up and look very attentive and because nothing special happened for her demeanor to change, i'll assume she needs a potty break but otherwise, she doesn't whine, go to the door, bark, run around in circles, nothing. sometimes she'll go into the bathroom where her paper lives and other times (according to my husband) she'll potty on floor where she is at the time. she very rarely makes poopie in the house and there are times when we leave her all day and she'll wait for us to come home to take her out but is there anything we can do to get her to "talk" to us?
