Walking more than one dog Hi everyone, here is my question. I have recently bought a coupler to walk my two rott boys. The only problem I am having is that I have been using their flat buckled collars(my dogs were trianed on prong collars)and the dogs are pulling constantly.Does anyone know if it is safe to walk them on a coupler using the prong collars. They are absolute angels when using these collars.

If you use a coupler, even though you have separate leashes, the dogs are constantly (and most unfairly) receiving corrections from the coupler often just because of the fact that their gaites are not identical. Dump the coupler and stick with the separate that way any corrections that come are from you and for a reason.

I agree with JudiW. I have never had any luck using a coupler except on puppies. The last coupler experience ended with me on the ground being dragged by two Rottweilers as they tried to get to their friends at obedience class. ------------------ Carol Darrlburg Rottweilers

I always walk Bear and Jas on seperate 4' leads with a prong collar, one dog on each side of me. They have both been taught the "by me" command, which makes walks much more pleasant... Like anything, walking two dogs at a time takes time to practice and get used to.I agree, the coupler can cause more problems than it is worth and as Judi pointed out, both dogs would recieve any correction you give.

I would use the coupler to attach the dogs to each other, but then use two separate leashes, one to the toggle of each pinch collar. Color code the leashes, so you know which dog is attached to which leash. Then if ONE dog pulls you can pop ie.correct only that dog, and not correct and confuse the other dog as you would if you only had one leash.

The original post stated that these two dogs were "angels" when walked on their pinches ie.not needing corrections/totally trained. I don't foresee a problem. My 2 adult Rotts have their CDX's....ie.totally trained. I walk them on a coupler on one side (but still with 2 leashes, just in case of trouble) and pup romps around on my other side.......

Hi again, well I'm not sure about ditching the coupler just yet,I really like how it keeps them together. I think I will just keep trying, I mean this is new to them as well. My biggest concern was using the prong collars and having them hurt each other. Thanks for the input everyone. Hey just one more quick question. Has anyone else experienced the different obedience with different types of collars.

I won't walk a dog on a coupler unless he already walks great on leash without a prong collar. I can put a three dog coupler on three of my dogs, but I wouldn't dream of putting the other two on anything but separate leashes.
