| Re: Walking on Leash!!..Help He's still a baby and all of this is sooo new for him. Just attach the leash to his collar and let him drag it while you are there to supervise. Don't pick it up or tug on it until he get's used to it. Jaime

| Re: Walking on Leash!!..Help When I first introduced Sarge to his leash I kept it on him most of the day and did not hold it. He would walk around the house and outside with it on. He soon got used to it and now gets excited when I grab it and say Walk. When I first walked him with it he would pull away from me. He did not like it but I pulled firm and would not budge he had to go the way I wanted to I was the boss not him. Now if he tries to wander away I just hold the leash to my chest and stand firm until he comes my way. This usually last 2 seconds. So just let him know it is okay and soon you will be fine. |

| Re: Walking on Leash!!..Help Have you tried carrying treats with you? That's pretty much my solution to any problem..... let them know you have the treats... They'll do anything.

| Re: Walking on Leash!!..Help A retractable lead is an invaluable tool in teaching puppies to first walk on lead. It has just enough tension to teach them to tolerate it. You can let the puppy "flail it out" when he first feels this minor tension, but he will stop REALLY soon because you can make sure he has nothing to pull against. It's really easy with the retractable to make sure he never feels the leash tighten. Just the mild tension that keep the lead up off the ground. Once he is over this, and most of them take just a few seconds, show the puppy a nice treat, and walk off. Most little puppies are going to follow you once you get about 10-12 feet away. Voila. Stop, let him catch up, treat and praise. Never had it fail for me one time. Once the pup has learned to go with you, you can put on your regular lead and it won't be a problem. |
