Where to find training links? Question, when training my 2 rotties we had a trainer who came to our house to work with them and the family. One of the things we used (because we were training 2 littermates someone always seemed to need correcting!) was what she called training links- chains that are like a choke chain only shorter and make a different noise (important). You sensitize them to the sound by setting them up for correction and toss the chain then when they repeat the behavior the sound coupled with the command stops the behavior. Eventually they respond to the command alone, which mine did, and I misplaced the links since. We now have a Dobie puppy who we are working with and she seems to be falling in Baron's footsteps when it comes to counter and tablesurfing, which we corrected very quickly using that method- only I have no idea where to get the links! We've since moved so I can't get ahold of the trainer we used, and have tried a search in online stores. Anybody know of these links and where I can find them? I know the clicker method is similiar, but just like trying to find the right collar with a hard headed dog like Baron ( we settled on the prong with him after trying all else and it works beautifully) the links were what got the quickest and best results, and I'm familiar with them so I felt it would be a more effective training method for me to use. Thanks for any suggestions! ![]()

Re: Where to find training links? What about taking a regular choke collar and cutting it in half so you have two sets of training links?

Re: Where to find training links? I don't know if that would work, the links are suposed to have their own distinct and separate sound, do you think cutting the size would change the noise it makes? Baby is good walking with the choke collar so I don't want her to associate the correction noise with her collar noise and get confused. (Baron and Gretchen use the prong collars so they're completely different-but so far I've gotten good results with Baby and hopefully won't need to go on to the prong) My FIL suggested a ring of old keys but again, everytime I grab mine she'll wonder why I'm correcting her! The links have a piece of chain that slides when you sort of 'chink' it in your hand, and let me tell you, after the other 2 were sensitized to it, as soon as they heard it they stopped cold whatever they weren't sposed to be doing! OOH, actually I just thought of something I might be able to use, we hung a new chandelier in my DR today and ended up with a length of that chain left over...hmmmmmm, let me fool around with that! That's something she won't hear making noise otherwise, it might just work if I play with it a bit. Thanks for the suggest, it kicked my thinking cap back into place.
