Making Weave Poles

I am going to be making some weave poles this weekend and I can't decide between making the stick in the ground kind or the ones with a base.

What have the other do it yourselfers done???? and why?

Thanks!

Re: Making Weave Poles

I used light weight plastic electric fence posts. They have a pre-made spike on one end with step in tabs. I used a hack saw to cut off the little doo dads that are supposed to hold the wire. Found mine at Lowe's, Home Depot has them too.

Re: Making Weave Poles

Right now I have the stick in the ground type, but once we get a bit more advanced and crank up the speed I will move to ones in a base.

You can make it all yourself with PVC pipe and fittings. I've become quite adept at building my own obstacles. So far, I've made 10 bar jumps, 1 high jump, a broad jump, weave poles, and a Buja (sp?) board.

What did you use to stick them in the ground?

Re: Making Weave Poles

Actually, I bought the spikes off ebay. These are very similar to what I have: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...310038747&rd=1

But they are just PVC end caps cemented together with a hole drilled for a spike from Home Depot. They would be easy to make at home.

Re: Making Weave Poles

I have a set of 12 that I built. Cost was about a hundred bucks- I've seen them go at trials for that. Mine are metal base, PVC poles with a set pin through to a wooden dowl. About half that cost was the flat iron, and I bought it too heavy.

My dad did the welding and didn't charge me for materials or anything so that's quite a cost if you have to have somebody else do it.

I can't have the stick in the ground- not only am I on shale but Tara has a long list of equipment she's broken.

Re: Making Weave Poles

And if you really want to go cheap and easy, get some shortish pieces of rebar, pound them in the ground and slip a piece of white PVC over them. This allows you to shift them easily as the dog gets the drill. Further apart and zig zagged, closer together, etc.
