crate trained?

my girl sleeps in her crate, stays in there when we are gone, without a fuss. but she won't go in on command. usually I'm running late and just toss something yummy in and she goes right in. so I guess she is crate trained, but if she won't go in when asked.....or told? without a treat, I have to physically push her in and that's getting old.

Re: crate trained?

While Rocco was still crate trained, he always got "nappy snack" when it was time to go in. I would just say "nappy snack" and he would run right to his crate and get in.

Re: crate trained?

Julius really doesn't use his crate anymore. Only when we're going to be gone for more than a couple of hours.

He still usually gets a treat when he goes in his crate or something yummy. Now, when I open the back door & am about to leave he runs into his crate (even when I wasn't going to put him in).

Re: crate trained?

well, She very seldom goes in on her own. I guess I have to spend some time teaching and training her on this. I've tried teaching her "in" or "crate" but she stands outside the door of her crate, wagging and waiting for me to toss the goodie in there. sigh...

Re: crate trained?

I have the SAME problem. I tell Harley "CRATE" and he RUNS out of the room and tries to go hide. We have ALWAYS used to crate as a possitive Place. We use treats in his crate such as a yummy stuffed Kong or Liver treats. We also feed him ALL meals in his Crate. He will NOT go in there on his own. I have to pick him up and place him in his crate or I have to walk him to his crate, tell him crate and then place him in there. I dont know how to get him to go in on his own. He used to go in there when I put his treat in there or when I put his food in there but he wont now. He has Never hit the door going in, I cant think of a single thing that may have scared him either in the crate, on his way in the crate or on his way out of the crate. Once he is in there he will eat, or eat the treat or chew on his kong or lay down and go to sleep.
I Had to take his bedding out since he pulled the stuffing out of his bed. Plus he pushes it off to the side and sleeps on the plastic flooring anyway.

Akasha doesn't like to go into her crate either. She does go in when I tell her to "go to bed" but she is not thrilled about it When I tell her to "go to bed" I have a hand signal that I give her as well as the voice command. I think when I do my hand signal she thinks that I am throwing a cookie into her crate so she always runs in to check lol. In the beginning I did throw a treat in and then after a while I started weaning her off the treats, so now she never knows when to expect one

My definition will be: She is crated trained, but still not fully obedience trained.
