Always...ALWAYS have a high value toy to "trade" her for your skin. I'm told they get over this in time

Re: Need some anti-nipping advice please

How old is she?? Has she had any training?? How old was she when she came to you?

When she bites you, let out a high pitched yelp, like her siblings would do. When she does not bite, praise her and offer a tug/chew toy for her to sink her teeth into. Basically, until she has learned that no teeth on skin are ever acceptable, you need to always have an appropriate item in your hand/on your person for her to bite on.

Another reason I won't have a puppy - to be honest, I don't have the patience for teething and non-stop puppy energy! Youngest I'll go is 6-8 months

My pup bites alot too (she is only almost 4 months old)! we ALWAYS have a toy to trade her for. She has learned quite well already that we do not appreciate her biting our skin. Now it's just to find a way to get her from grabbing my pant leg and trying to take me with her, or taking my pants down LOL

Re: Need some anti-nipping advice please

Shes a young one...6 and a half weeks but she has been doing really well with everything except the nipping...she lets a little whine out when she needs to go to the bathroom and if she cant make it in time she runs to the scent pad and pees there.. she comes when called and loves to pounce on her squeky penguin..I just wanted to know if there was something that i could get her started on so that she would stop bc she likes to run at u then start nipping ur ears toes and anything else she can reach...(my girlfriends dad woke her up at a softball game today and she jumped up and barked at him then tried to nip him) i really want her to stop this before it gets outta hand ive had a dog/puppy as long as ive been alive but never one who nips this much heh

Re: Need some anti-nipping advice please

I might be wrong on this but what I have learned is 6 1/2 wks is still pretty young. They learn from mom and littermates about play biting. When mine used to do this alot I would yelp, normally that didn't work so I get up and walk away for a bit. He usually gets the hint that mom doesn't like it. He has been doing alot better and it only takes a NO BITE now. Good luck Dani

Re: Need some anti-nipping advice please

How long have you had her? 6 weeks is kind of young to leave the litter. The first weeks in the litter is where they learn about bite control and other things. But beyond that, get all of the info you can get on this forum about the breed. I'm sure you are dealing with other things like house training at the moment, but all of it comes together. concentrate on being the leadre with her, it will take a while to get a routine going. Don't worry, she's just a baby, the nipping is instinctive.
