| Chewing!! Hello, Our little Sarge is 4 months old now and I know he's teething, but he seems to be picking out everything he's not supposed to chew and gnawing away at it - like the windowsill on our picture window, and the plastic cover to our air conditioner outside. He's got plenty of chew toys and I play with him alot. I'm with him practically all day and he follows me everywhere I go. The minute I turn my back, like when I'm in the kitchen and he's in the living room - before I know it, I hear the grinding sound of his teeth on my window sill! I've tried that bitter apple spray - he treats it like it's gravy! Any suggestions? Thanks! Kathy |

| Re: Chewing!! Crate him when you cannot supervise him. Problem solved. next question? (and yes, this will be a lot in the beginning...will not hurt the tike and will keep him safe from choking on things he is chewing around the house) |

| Re: Chewing!! Yup, I agree. I would get a crate for the little guy when he cannot be supervised. When Julius was going through the chewing stage (around 10-11 months) I would also tie his leash to my belt loop so where ever I went he accompanied me. Worked very well. It's just so wonderful to have a Rottweiler in the bathroom with you.... :D :p :) Brooke

I have to agree with the others who said to keep your puppy crated or with you at all times. I still do this with Akasha and she is 15 months old. She is not a big chewer anymore but she is into EVERYTHING! The other day I left two very small pieces of crust on a plate in the middle of the counter. I left Akasha and Keil in the front part of the house while I took a quick shower. When I came back the two pieces of crust were gone. Nothing else was disturbed, just the missing crust. I know it was her because nothing else was disturbed. Had it been Keil everything would have been on the floor. Just when I start thinking she can be trusted for a few minutes, she does something that shows me she is not quite ready for that much freedom yet. Keil is just fine when he is left unattended. He is really good about leaving stuff alone and he no longer chews on anything. The other night he got out of his crate during the night (I must not have latched it properly ) and in the morning when I found him he was laying in his crate with the door wide open. Nothing was disturbed and had I not seen his door wide open I would have had no idea he had even gotten out. We have been able to leave Keil out of his crate without us for a long time now. I think it will be a long time before his little sister will be allowed the same priviledge. She still has alot of maturing to do.Good luck with your puppy! Be sure and post pictures of your boy when you can!

| Re: Chewing!! I have a lab who is a sneaky chewer. He is fine until I turn my back and then he chew away at items he is not suppose to. I think mostly he will grow out of it. Of course as everyone else said, crate him when you cannot watch him. |
