Anyone use a Springer???

If anyone on here uses a springer on their bike, I have a question. Did the rope attachment last or has your dog broken it going? Today was the second time we used ours and Sajan saw a squirrel and the plastic breakaway snapped like a tiny twig. When I first put it on the bike, I said the plastic would never withstand him. So, am I the only one with these problem? If not, what did you use to replace it? I was thinking about a chain with a snap hook on each end.

Thanks

I have never had the plastic snap, even with a HUGE G Perenese (sp?)
I would use a nylon or leather coupler. Y'know...those thingies that you use to walk 2 dogs on one leash? 2 snaps, 12 inches between....PERFECT! :)

I've not tried it with my rott yet as he's a little young for running on the road yet .

It was awesome with my active 97lb dobie . He'd be so excited when the bike & harness came out . Spinning in circles and whining frantically :D I sure miss him .
Those plastic things are a 'safety' thing and supposed to break if you get tangled . Though I know a sudden lunge will do it too .
Teach Sajan to pay attention to you when hooked to the bike . I had to use a pinch collar with the dobie for a while until he learnt he had to run with mum not anywhere he felt like . He too thought squirrels , cats etc were fair game . A couple of trips with the pinch collar and he'd ignore them while we biked .
I don't know what other springer users have taught their dogs but I found ' wait ' , 'slow down' , ' left ' & ' right ' very usefull .
:D
