| Anne, I still feel that far too many dog owners, especially first time dog owners are just too quick to put on a prong collar and suppress their dogs personality with it. I'm not saying that there isn't a need for using a prong collar in a training program but in this case we're talking about a dog which has not had any formal training and his biggest problem is the fact that he is pulling on his leash while walking. I also would not want to suggest that an inexperienced owner approach a trainer with the sole idea of teaching how to use a prong collar. I still believe (as in my original post) the dog should be evaluated to determine what is the proper course of training and what collar he should be on. |

| Rott-Wiley, I absolutely agree with you. I think the dog should begin formal obedience training with a good and qualified trainer who will be able to assess if there are problems and if so, then work on them accordingly. A new dog owner who has not much experience probably has not much idea of which is a real problem and how it should be dealt with. The trainer will know if a prong is required or not and at such a young age I would not use a prong as a first call. |
