| tandem training I have noticed my two sweethearts obey commands meant for the other and that got me to thinking about tandem training where they would be able to obey seperate commands while in each other's presence or obey commands together such as heel and stay, when we go for walks and such. I found nothing on the search, probably because I don't know what to call this type of training and where to get some reading material on it. Any suggestion? I do remember seeing a picture of several dogs winning a prize together, but I don't remember the caption.

| If you wish to do this (which I believe is undully confusing for the novice dog), you must teach them to only respond to commands that follow their name. Although I work multiple dogs as well as do brace obedience, I do not ask that of my dogs. If I wish one to lie down and wait until its turn, I take it to the place where I want it, give it the command and then take the dog I am working. I would not simply give a command and expect them to know which dog it was intended for and I rarely use the dog's name coupled with commands in training or competition. When I am teaching something like signals, I might have all three lined up and give the signals, but they are all responding alike. I should also add that when doing team obedience the dogs must respond to commands one dog at a time, but they each have their own handler. Last edited by Judi W; 11-25-2003 at 12:31 AM. |

| The only time I really find this annoying is when I do recalls and everybody comes or I'm reviewing a class and they both try to get as close as possible to me waiting for treats. Most of the time I train one at a time (with the other inside) ;) I would like to see them respond together on heels, stays, downs and so forth when they are a bit older. (So brace is what it's called, huh)

| How about using two different languages, one for each dog?
