| Toilet Training Blues I need some advice on toilet training our puppie, we started out by taking him out about every 20 minutes which worked well, and then we started to extend the time and the accidents were getting less, we cleaned up the accidents to get rid of any smells to discourage him from doing it again (btw he is about 16 weeks). my problem is over the last week he has turned into a holy terror he just goes anywhere he pleases, so lastnight we took action and when he went we growled to make him stop and took him outside and he just sees it as an opportunity to play , i my partner had him outside for 20 minutes and then bought him back in and straight away he peed so i growled and took him out again for about half an hour he ran around the garden playing and he was in long grass and i thought he had peed much to my frustration he walked in side and peed on the carpet, to this i really growled and took him back outside.... where we waited another 20 minutes and nothing so i took him back inside and just followed him everywhere and he was ok, no pee....any suggestions??? he has paper in the kitchen which he used to use but not any more..... Thanks Cat

| You might find this helpful: http://rottweiler.net/forums/showthr...threadid=25409 I know it can be frustrating and as with any training they often backslide! I can also relate to standing outside in the freezing cold waiting for the little darling to quit chasing leaves and actually do his business. Using a crate would definitely help - but I never used a crate for toilet training either. Seems like you are doing everything right & you just have to be real patient. A friend had a Cocker puppy who just would not get it. She resorted to taking little tasty treats out with her, and when her pup finally peed, she got BIG praise and a treat. Might be worth a try.

| Fortunately I have not had any problems yet with training my 11 week old puppy. Like you Catress, from 8 weeks old I took her out regularly into the garden. Always after a sleep, a long play and soon after she has eaten. I gave (still do) her the command (what ever you choose) and kept repeating it. When she peed I praised her very much and gave her a treat. She has only had the occasional accident in the house which I blame myself for (ie. I left it too long before letting her out). Now she sits by the door when she wants to go out. She is crated at night and has never wet her bed. The only problem now is that she is too smart !!! During the evening she will regularly sit by the door to be let out, have a tiny pee...just enough (God knows where it comes from) so that she can get her treat. Bit of a pain when you are watching something good on the TV and you have to keep getting up !!!! If I were you, be patient, take him out regularly, watch for the signs that he is thinking where he can pee, and quickly encourage him out with the treat (like Carina has suggested) and then when he does go (don't forget repeating the command) give him lots of praise and a treat. I am no expert like many of the people here, but it worked for me. Good luck.

| Does your dog know the "go potty" command? I find this VERRRRY helpful especially when it's cold or raining outside. When Julius was little I used to get very frustrated because I would take him out to go potty & as soon as he would be I would hustle him back inside where he would proceed to have an accident on the floor. I posted about it & Judi (I think....) told me that I should tell him to go potty 3-4 times. Low & behold.....he would go potty the first time (& usually before that I would just take him inside after the first potty). I would tell him to go potty again & he would go possibly 3-4 more times. The little bugger was just saving it all & waiting until we came back inside. That really helped our potty training though.... This is the post http://www.rottweiler.net/forums/sho...t=julius+potty :) Brooke
